July 18 Spokane

Monday we decided to stay in a Spokane for another day. We tried "Priceline" to see how the bid process works and were quite pleased that we got reservations for the "Red Lion" overlooking the Spokane river for $65 (regular rate of $125). They came through!

We arrived in Spokane around 10 AM and started on our tour of downtown finally ending up at Nordstrom for a little shopping. Do miss this in the desert. Spokane has some nice shopping but no where near Portland. Lunch was at a find of a restaurant named Sante where they made many of their own cold cuts and spreads. It was outstanding. Dinner that night was at Milford's Fish House where we again had an outstanding meal of sautéed fish, clams and shrimp that was to die for.

Our impression of Spokane is that it is more of a big town vs a city. There seems to be an interest in food and the outdoors. Prices were quite reasonable and the sales tax was also fairly low considering no income tax.
