Me near the space needle
me in seattle near the space needle, emp and sci fi museum Seattle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Once again I took the greyhound and it was actually pretty cool as we went through some nice places, including Olympia and then the appraoch to Seattle itself was amazing as it was raining and becoming drak so you had the lights of the city and the cars, while listening to music it was very atmospheric.
Once I got in tho, the rain became a nuiscence as I was walking to my hostel. I got to where it was supposed to be and saw the sign on the corner but go there and its not there, no entrance! So I am looking around and this beggar guy calls me over and I say I am fine but then names the hostel I am looking for so I go over, thinking he will give me directions and he asks for money so I gave him a buck and he tells me its 20 yards up the street round the corner, it was, I could have got there myself, I just saw the sign on the corner and assumed it was there but the entrance was actually a bit up from that. So I get into my hostel and its
The Space Needle
The Space Needle - taken form the Bank of America Tower open mic night, so I sit down and am prepared for some free entertainment, well it starts an hour and half after it was supposed to and its not that great. The musicans are alirght I guess but its not very smooth. I am bored and then a guy wnating to sing his songs goes up and he is obviously a bit tapped or had some sort of brain injury and the guy on stage says he has to breakdance to sing, so the guy actually does this. It was getting a bit car crash so as it finally got up tp sing, I left to find somewhere to get a drink. I couldn't find anywhere!!! Woman at the hostel said it was only roudn the corner, I walk ages and couldnt find out so took a different street back up. I eventually found one place but it was very fancy. I went in anyway and had 1 drink, feeling very out of place in my jeans and top. I head back to the hostel and rest.
The next day I head out and check out Pike's Market which is rather sizable and have lunch. I go out on
Me on the top of the Bank of America tower
well nto the top of the building but their top floor where the observation deck is, its like 73 story's up. the town and I am soooooo cold. Colder then in Portland, I was freezing. I look for a coat I can buy. I see a thick one in the Adidas shop but decide to look around to see if I can find one cheaper. I can't so head back to the Adidas shop and buy it....it was $100 plus tax. However as I am heading to Canada when it was gonna be cold, I see it as an investment. It is a good warm coat, tho I later found out the hood in the collar is way to big so it comes over my eyes if I use it. I head down to the famous space needle where there is also the Sci Fi Museum and the Electronic Music experience which I had a ticket for. I se the needle, it costs $16 to go up so I don't bother as I know there is a taller building in Seattle you can go to. I see the sci fi museum and EMP, the Sci Fi museum is pretty sweet. The EMP had a massive structure made out of guitars, I tried taking a picture but security said it wasn't allowed,
Jimi Hendrix
Jimi rockin out probably coz they sell postacards of what the picture would be in the shop, anyway I check out the rest of it, its alright. The best part was where you could go in nooths or stands and play insturments, mix, sing or reocrd a CD. There was also the stage experience where you go on a real stage and they film it as you perfrom but its only limited tracks you can do so I didn't bother. I walked back to my hostel via the seafront broadwalk.
I meet the aussie guy I was hanging with in Portland at the hostel and we hang out in the hostel as its comedy night, where there was about 6 professional comedians performing free. It was quite funny and pretty good I thought, way better then the open mic night. After that finished we played some back gammon with a guy we had met in the portland hostel who was also in this hostel and then played cards with another english guy and 2 scottish girls.
The next day me and the aussie guy to the Bank of America tower, the tallest buidling in Seattle with its own observation deck which
Me with Jimi
We are rockin hardcore!!! you only pay $5 to get into. We head up there and check out the view which is pretty cool, youc an see the city and the outer areas and some mountains. At one point a young family came up and we overheard the mother telling her kids that when 9-11 happened, people jumped from the building and that this building was even higher then the trade tower.......charming we thought. We then went walking through the town along the seafront and then went to find the statue of Jimi Hendrix (as his grave was too far to go to really), it was a long slog uphill but we find it and then decide to go and find the graves of Bruce and Brandon Lee who are buried in a graveyard not too far away. Another long walk, getting slightly lost but we make it to where the park is, see a right raving loony just shpouting away as he was walking. We foudn the graveyard and then tried to find the grave....we had an indictation of where it was but we couldn't find it for the life of us, as we went up to the top of the hill a
The graves of Bruce and Brandon Lee
If you know the story, you know the legend of bruce lee and the tragedy of him and his son, you will understand why I went to see this. gain we spotted 2 guys who were also lookign around but seemed to know where they was going so followed them and sure enough found the graves. They are hidden behind a little square of trees so not easy to see. It was quite strange there as the graveyard was filled with crows but they didn't go into where the grave was......we stayed there paying our respects, the 2 guys left and a woman and bloke showed up. They were very friendly but I wondered if they may have been on something how they acted, they were just a little...strange. We then headed back to the city. Turns out we had walked a hell of a long way and it was a fair trek back, we went back a different way and under this one bridge was a little dirt park type thing, for bokes and stuff but then there was this one tree that had sprinklers set up under the bridge to keep it constantly watered, but it was the only bit of plant life there. Strange as it was a fair amount of water they was using. Anyway we got a bus back eventually to the hostel.
The crows.......
I was telling the truth, the crows were in the graveyard, full of them it was but they didn't go on the grave.... After rest and food, I was feeling unwell but we decided to head out as it was my last night. We went looking for some store that had a free gig but couldn't find it so went looking for some bars I had heard of. We found one of them, a place called the 'Whiskey Bar', a bit of an alternative hangout but had a happy hour. It turned out really cool, met some really friendly locals 2 of which I chatted to a fair bit, had a fair bit of fun there, stayed all night in fact before heading back to the hostel.
Seattle is cold but cool to see, nice little city and that last night I had a really great time. Seattle was to be my last place in the USA I would stop (least to my knowledge as I write this), the next place I would hang my hat would be Vancouver in Canada!!!!!!!!!
