What a great day yesterday. So, we ended up playing Cranium, and Matt Lynch never showed, but that's ok. So yesterday, we all woke up and went to breakfast in downtown Portland at Byway Cafe. Apparently it was featured on a Food Network show, and rightfully so. I had blue corn pancakes; talk about interesting. They reminded me somewhat of grits. They also have amaretto infused french toast, and they make their own honey almond butter.
I love how there isn't any sales tax in Oregon; it makes figuring out totals and what not, so much easier. So after we met up with Drew Harrison again. we went to this awesome waterfall, called Multnomah Falls. It seriously looked like Narnia, and I got some great pictures. Afterwards Drew, Amanda, and I got new tattoos! We went where Kelsey's boyfriend had gotten his, and they did an amazing job. Amanda's was kind of spur of the moment, but she got an ichthus, so I doubt she will regret it. I got a chi-rho on my right forearm. Drew got agape in greek on her left wrist. Amanda made us promise we would all be friends forever, haha.
Afterward, Drew departed
and we went back to Kelsey's to eat some awesome spaghetti her mom ha made. She's Italian, so you know it was good. We quickly departed for the Way, a church service all the local 20-somethings go to on Friday night. We had some time to kill though so we walked around this nice mall nearby called Washington Square, There was a Mac store and so I had to leave so I wouldn't spend any money. At the Way, we got to see Phil, my intern from the ropes course this summer. It was really great seeing him again. I liked the service; it's just like Midtown if we had more money and more people. I even saw that they use Pro-presenter (I run that program for Midtown's services a couple times a month).
Then we found Kristi! She worked with Amanda, Kelsey, Phil, and me on the ropes course. We had been trying to get in touch with her, but she had gotten a new phone. We rescued her from so creeper that was stalking her around the church, and she ended up spending the rest of the night hanging out with us. We were going to go
clubbing, because I had never been and we wanted to do something crazy, but the other guys didn't want to go (understandbly), and so we just went back to Kelsey's. There we ended up playing in the snow in a park near by, and I went ice-blocking for the first time. It's where you ride on a block of ice down a hill and you go really fast. You do it more in the warm summer months, but it works in the snow as well. Then we went back into downtown Portland, to a place called Voodoo Doughnuts,. It was delicious, but they had some seriously weird pastries. I had a doughnut that I assumed was an ice cream cone, but Kelsey corrected me and pointed out that it was a joint, haha.
Finally, we came back and went to bed, but on the way we stopped at (I think it was called) Rocky Point. It's another great view of Portland, apparently where all the teenagers make out. It was cloudy/foggy though, so we snapped a quick group shot and headed on our way.
And now, the original four of us are on our way back to the
Seattle area, and soon it will just be me and Chris again. We didn't get to see David and Roy (who have been road tripping together all semester), because the storm pushed us out of Portland early, and brought them in late. But I did get to see them when they came through Columbia, earlier in November, so I can't complain. And we never saw Matt; he should have been at the way. He was dreading his hair apparently, so who knows where he was. Oh, and that little joke Amanda convinced me to do about changing both our status to engaged on facebook blew up in my face. People in Columbia, were freaking out, and all confused. My parents had even heard something.
These trips are a lot of fun, and I'm surrounded by friends, but I really miss everyone back home. I just miss being apart of their lives, knowing whats going on. I miss having them in my life on a routine basis. That's going to be the hardest thing about going to Africa this summer.
