This morning we woke under the fluorescent light and I put on my normal people clothes since I was on lunch van duty with Raffi. After I rolled my bag out for trailer crew, I asked Emily & Nick, our hosts, where we could find a vacuum. Nick unlocked a closet to reveal....A BACKPACK VACUUM!! The excitement for overnight cleaning duty just got so high!! I threw that bad boy on and starting going to town vacuuming our room, the hallway, & the main dining & sleeping area. Aiden got a kick out of while he was working on the “whiteboard” for the day & snapped a sweet pic—I think the excitement shows! ?
At route meeting, Magpie & Carly who were sweep for the day announced their challenge for the day—take a name from the cup and get the best candid stalker photo of them. I picked Ron which proved to be very entertaining indeed. Since I was on van duty, I started snapping right away as he was stretching to prepare for the ride. We took a group photo with Nick & Emily and in typical K2C fashion it took a while for riders to get going onto
the road—I like to say we’re on island time bc being on time and getting going in a timely fashion is not our groups forte. Oh well, Bike & Build life! ?
Raffi and I then set out on our lunch van duties, with Sarah in tow since her shoes were deeply packed in the trailer and unretrievable from her Safety Nav day into Richmond. Raffi helped her with her journal entry for the day, which of course focused on her losing her shoes and the gratifying sound and feel of clipping in and out ? (if you’re a cyclist, you know what I mean!). We then talked about Bike & Build prom and how we should reveal prom dates since we already picked the couples using the google number generator back in Wilmington. We had a few ideas before she fell asleep on us. Raffi & I then talked about Bike & Build and life thereafter and I told him the story of how I came to be on K2C at such a short notice (huge shout out to all those who helped me get here!!)! He complimented me for being “so strong” in the midst of anything,
which was sweet, especially since we haven’t chatted much. All Bike & Build people are the best!
We found an elementary school just a block off cue so using my Rally Amy skills with school secretaries, we asked them if we could set up lunch camp. They were more than gracious and pointed us in the direction of the bathrooms. I then chalked it up and we went to play on the playground behind the school while waiting for the first group to arrive. After some attempts to muscle up & knock each other over on the balance beam, we went back down the hill and unloaded the coolers and bins for the first crew.
At lunch today we saw what non-sick Magpie is like as she danced some silly dances to a few songs she knew from childhood/teenage years. Beth and I joined her and it was very silly (and maybe even captured on the team Snapchat). Sarah and I also discussed some prom things and asked a few people if they would rather be asked or ask their prom dates. With a few ideas in mind and a few football passes later, we packed up the
coolers, bid our friends farewell, and continued driving towards the host.
On our way we hit some construction while the riders were on a trail so after getting through that, we stopped at Wawa where Sarah had her first experience! It was decorated like Candyland!! So fun! I got one of my favorites—chocolate mint cookies & cream milkshake—and grabbed a fun rainbow cake for Jana’s Birthday. I thought she would appreciate the fact that it came from Wawa since were two of the few that know and appreciate a good Wawa pit stop.
We rolled up to the host, unloaded all the coolers & bins, played with our little friend Beau, and walked through the weeds to get to the Y for showers. We waded through the high grass again, teased by the water park that shared the same parking lot. Jana and I then walked up to Wawa where she got a sandwich for herself and I’m fairly certain it made her day! Our host ended up managing to DM us some passes to get into the water park, however we didn’t get to use them because we went on a historical tour with him as our
Cannon Balls next the Wall
“To make a statement” I don’t believe they are actually from the Civil War tour guide instead. We saw trenches that were dug by Civil War soldiers, struggled to gear him from the back of the 15P, and sent Memes to our friends about who they were responsible for asking to prom.
When we got back, I took a quick snooze in the sanctuary since Ron was snoozing away in our room, and admittedly almost (or did?) drool a little. I rarely nap on Bike & Build but really just needed to lay down for a few minutes. Carly woke me up for dinner, which I appreciated since I was laying down where no one else was. For dinner, since we didn’t have a host dinner, we agreed to eat leftovers since we have so much food and can’t go through it quickly enough. Raffi heated some of it up for us and we enjoyed sitting in a circle in the hallway on the floor and chowing away.
We then had Town Hall in the back room where I shared that my crappy was that it was the first Father’s Day that I didn’t celebrate, happy was the concert in Raleigh, and shout out was to the Ellies for a great ride
day and amazing chore group. I received a few shout outs—one from Jana about painting the trailer and one from Ron (he gave everyone one) about having so much energy and positivity with Sarah at the Raleigh build. When the question box came out, Jana had asked Mikey to Prom in front of the whole team by placing it as a question into the box. I also announced more details about Prom and how the looking and event may look. We’re all so excited!
After Town Hall, Noah approached me about his promposal to Carly—the real books in the back room laid out to ask her—I loved it! He said it was all he could think about during Town Hall so I said he definitely had to go for it. Jana and I helped him set it up and she promised him she would guide it with her life. I then headed black to my room where NJ said she was moving out to the hallway bc Ron snores—turns out she does too! ? I sat in the hallway for a bit as I journaled and talked to others about riding the extra few miles tomorrow to make our
96 mile day a century—especially since I didn’t get to do our other one. NJ and I also discussed Prom since Casey, one of the PD from the home office, would be visiting during prom so NJ agreed to take her in addition to Jess. So fun! After more blogging, I snuggled into my sleeping bag and hoped that Ron was right that he only snores in the afternoon....
