Edit Blog Post
I should probably blog on this before I forget. I had a rough week-10 days, needed to take pressure off.
There are some times you just need to runaway. Clear your head, even if only for a short while. Several times I tried to get out to Groton. This time I succeeded. I know it's smart to travel with a buddy but there was none to be had. I've rarely been alone in my life so it was scary. Among other things, I'm remembering how much I need some kind of a pet. It was so neat quietly watching a toad or frog singing. I've been coming up against a number of roadblocks on finding a pet to the point of where I've just prayed about it and little things have started happening. In the past we've owned what's now known as rescues, animals we've come across and circumstance dictates that they become a part of our lives. The world has changed to the point of needing to register to own a pet which is off-putting and insulting to those who've always cared for their animals by default or proxy. It's like if you
Frog
One of a couple frog friends. It was neat just quietly sitting there watching them sing have respect for yourself and want to live a quality life, you take care of yourself. Same with a pet.
The music of the frogs at times was resonant. It's really good there was some kind of breeze on the small lake I stumbled across, Lake Seyon. Also good I had jeans and a T shirt because I found out I've developed an allergy to black flies. I was ok, more surprised than anything. The breeze seemed to keep the bugs down a little. I didn't realize this was a small part of the larger Groton area til I went to a map and saw where I was in comparison to the remainder.
I went to Hildene a number of years ago, I'm guessing 2008 so it's been 9-10 years. I seem to remember seeing a picture in my Facebook feed dated that area when I went with a homeschool group. Loved it so when I had the opportunity to visit again I took advantage. I don't know if the other places I went there were part of the tour the first time, I don't remember
them. There was an ancient but gorgeously appointed rail car, a farm, a floating bridge over an area swamp and an old schoolhouse.
I'm a little sorry I didn't record the tour guide's talk about the railcar, but then it might be accepted practice to not do that. I've seen signs in the last several years on different tours where recording is not allowed. I think the railcar had to do with somebody Robert Lincoln was working with. The Pullman Palace Car (had to look it up again to remember) was beautiful with stunning mahogany. The attitude of the time was the elite separated themselves from what was considered the lower class and you could feel and see the current political attitude seeping into this exhibit. Robert didn't “save” the employees he inherited. There was a chalkboard up where people put up questions. One of which was there's never ethics in business. That ruined it for me.
How dare we assume we know what happened in this time period and you could do something without either being ostracized or murdered. Some people need to go back into history to see what the circumstance,
the attitude was, how life was done back then before passing judgment. I love watching people come from nothing to building a life and stunning structures that can be passed through the generations.
Up until this trip I'd never tried goat cheese.
It was delicious.I brought home a small chunk but I still haven't tried it. I'm not sure it made the trip back in the heat.
I might have spent more time on the floating bridge once I understood it. I don't think I realized it was “floating” until I got on it and one of the people I was traveling with decided to play on it. And it wasn't so much the
water underneath it moving from the breeze as it was the breeze actually
pushing the structure! You needed to connect the feeling of movement to what you were seeing. That and it was infested with wasp nests underneath. You won't be able to visit that when they swarm whether you have an allergy or not.
