Day 1: We left Maryland around 8 a.m. A little later than we hoped, but we had the usual last minute delays (packing the car just right, getting gas, a quick Starbucks run). I had packed enough snacks to feed us healthy snacks and sandwiches, so we didn't need to stop for lunch. We made a short detour to West Point, NY, the Army's military academy. We had never been and it was worth the short trip! West Point is on the Hudson River and has beautiful views. I had missed the beauty of New York state.. lush green mountains and countryside. It felt good to be back! After West Point…. we made it to Bennington, Vermont just about 2 hours later. On our way to Vermont, we passed Troy New York where I had never been. It's a small city that seems to have a diverse population. Vermont is beautiful, quiet and green! Our plan to walk around Bennington College was side tracked by our hunger, so we had dinner first. The college isn't far from where we are, but there aren't any sidewalks to get there, so we decided to wait until tomorrow morning to visit since it was
getting late. A local told us that there is a covered bridge near the college which we will also visit. Even though we drove all day, we made a few short stops and it really didn't feel so long.
Tomorrow we will head to Weston, Vermont to visit The Vermont Country Store and then we're off to Lake Placid to stay at The Mirror Lake Inn. I can't wait! Good night!
