Today started with a heavy snowfall, but ended up gloriously sunny and beautiful. What elevation will do. Another fantastic day!

It was snowing really heavily at Mesa Verde, and we couldn't even see across the parking lot

so we decided to not do the long, narrow, winding drive in heavy snow to where we wouldn't be able to see the ruins.

So we went ahead to Canyon of the Ancients Visitor's Center

And walked up to Escalante Pueblo in the perfect weather at the lower elevation

We got to see a cactus in the snow

And even though a lot of the ruins are pretty similar, this one has an interior Kiva which is from a slightly different culture than the ones we've seen before.

The National Park Service put a roof over Lowry Pueblo to protect it after they dug it out
