COLARADO
Leaving Denver behind here we come Rocky Mountains On the road by 8.30a.m. 5 1/2 hrs to Denver. Went back through Custer and then headed south to the Wyoming border to Cheyenne before getting over the border into Colorado. We came down off the plateau into the Buffalo Gap National Parkland. Big Ranches out this way! Denver was basically an overnighter enroute to Moab - we took an hour or so walk around town...called into a brewery for a beer..then back to hotel for GM's reception drinks and eats 5.30 to 7.30p.m. ...good deal included in room rate...then out for a small Indian meal. We all kind of though Denver was in the Rockies, but a very flat normal city....with the Rockies quite a few miles away in the background. Enjoyed our short stay here and headed for Moab the next morning.5 1/2 hr drive ....getting into the Rockies after about an hour...magnificent they are, drove through snow covered mountains but fine weather and couldn't get over how many rooms there were in this area for the snow skiing season....heaps and heaps of chalets etc... such a scenic drive! John now behind the wheel and enjoying himself immensely! Loves driving! We saw such a changing landscape today 15/10, from
the snow covered mountains in the Rockies to vast open plains surrounded by rocky mountains once getting into Utah! Utah does remind me so much of our outback, NT, Kimberleys etc, that beautiful red dirt...we all loved our drive into Moab! Hotel room wasn't ready so went and did a 4 hr drive of the Archies National Park.....absolutely magnificent...can't believe what we saw today...our favourite day so far! Fair bit of hiking too....you could hike these areas for days on end. 16/10 About 45 minutes out of Moab went to Canyonlands National Park today....stunning! Did a few short hikes today as well but there are hiking tracks all over the park. Two completely different National Parks....Canyonlands has the great Colorado River flowing through it....interesting we have seen this River from many different spots in the States as far down as Salton Sea in Southern California. Had a nice meal last night at Eddie McStiffs, great flat iron steak with blue cheese and garlic butter sauce, yumbo!! The pioneers who explored this area were rough and tough and what a job that would have been. Taking our great friend Carlos's advice and doing an off road Hummer tour this afternoon late

Great drive through the Rocky Moutains 4.30p.m. for sunset tour. Woody was our driver and we had a fantastic time, took us out of town where they do the trail stuff, all over the petrified sand dunes, literally up and down and all over, was a lot of fun, bit scary at times...two and half hours and got back to town around 7.00p.m. Great finale to our time in Moab! Sensational area we loved it.
