I awoke to find that Emma had tried to call but couldn’t get through. All I got was a barrage of abuse on an answer phone message from the office. It would've been nice to speak to the gang from work, but what was weird was that I didn’t miss anyone from home yet. Normally one or two people would have crossed my thoughts now and then, but at that moment, nothing. And it felt kinda great!
Today was just another drive to an overnight site, but when we arrived, were we impressed with the site! It wasn't a KOA, just an historic site, in that on the site is a natural water source, complete with little fishes swimming in it with humans. This ‘pool’ is quite big as well. There are 3 parts to the pool, and the water looked so inviting.
Sadly I was in a fairly quiet mood, mainly because the bites on my feet had swollen up and had gotten worse. After setting up site, everyone went to have a swim, but I didn’t fancy doing so, so whilst everyone took turns diving into the refreshingly clear water and swimming to the other end, I made
my way round the long stretch of the pool, past all the youngsters jumping off the high diving board, and took a seat on the edge of the opened section of the pool and watched everyone else having fun.
I didn’t fancy sitting around the others, so that’s why I made my way over to the other side, where it was quiet.
I was there on my own for some time until Kylie and Zoe made their way over, and tried their best to keep me company. Although the cool, refreshing water feels comforting for my feet, there was no shade by the edge of the pool, so I was sitting in the intense sun.
My mood hadn’t change, so I tried to cheer myself up by watching Todd, Graham, G and even Mark attempt the high diving board. Only Todd was good enough with his diving, barely making a splash as he does so. We were quickly realising that Todd is a very active, adventurous person, who’s not afraid to throw himself into oceans or off diving boards continuously. This is the type of person you want as your Trek leader. It makes everything more enjoyable.
Though watching
the others, bar Todd, attempt to dive, and messing it up badly at times was amusing to watch, it appeared that it was going to be one of those days with regards to my mood. When we decided to head back to our site and start dinner, I quickly limped ahead of the others, just to have some me time again.
When the others reached the site as well, Kylie seeked me out and sensed that I was unhappy about something. I just put it down to my feet.
Having me time doesn’t work when it’s your group who is cooking that night. We went with a chicken salad, but I failed miserably to even prepare the salad, spilling most of it on the less than clean table, before quickly scooping it back into the large colander, before Sarah had a go for doing so. With my mood, I wasn't the most co-operative, but still apologised and tried my best to help. All this with my feet iced under the table!
As dinner was served my feet weren't itching like crazy, and I made my way to the van after dinner to try and sort another problem out. My Dad’s second hand Android phone he lent me had lost connection, so I had lost all my contact numbers for home. There was also no WiFi out there so I couldn’t reconnect anything. It just wasn't going right at the moment.
Kylie finally offered me a cuddle which I really needed, and said there was more of those if needed. She even offered Zoe as well.
Anyway, here’s hoping tomorrow is another day.
