Sunday 6 Feb.
up before breakfast finished at 9.30am - so I could make my own waffles and drown them in maple syrup - or something. A god buffet breakfast set me up til dinner time 10 hrs later!
Mucked around in my room - the room was remade while still there so I was able to do some travellers laundry before going out. Then not far - did I say the Alamo was across the road and thru the gate? Then walked around North of there - disappointed that the historic facade of the Emily Morgan Hotel appears to be the only original thing left as a new skeleton behind it! Seemed to be quite a few churches N of town for some reason. So doodled around not doing much but take pix, incl. that of the somewhat not open Alameda theatre. As dusk fell decided to try and find the 'famous' Mi Tierra 24hr Mexican mariachi bar/restaurant, which I did without having to walk too far. Had a very good feed there for $15 - baked pork 'tips' (i.e. tender pieces) with standard beans and guacamole etc - and beers optional of course - while I watched
most of the Super Bowl footy game on the TV (had to do the full American thing - wearing my special Bowl T-shirt for the occasion). There seemed to be more on the Bowl on the SMH online, which surprised me, for the entertainment (Black Eyed Peas at half time) and show afterwards - Glee, some of which I saw at the hotel. Rather a nail biter match as "my" adopted team, the Green Bay Packers from Wisconsin - home of my new friends the Croake family originally, scraped home 31-25 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The rest is pictures - and quicker to edit than write.

Greenbacks!
Hi Mike, Your "adopted" team got up, you beauty! Always think of Vince Lombardi, of the Packers. Stunning selection of photo's as usual Mike. The Korean war memorial one was very dramatic. Candy's catfish as well, the Mi Tierra decor, certainly unique! Emily Morgan hotel looked like a film facade, from your lens. Love Huddo and girls.
