New York

New York is a high
energy, megacity whose citizens contribute almost 10 percent of the United
States economy with a GDP of over $1.5 trillion dollars. It’s hard to go to New
York and not fall in love with the city. Last year they hosted more than 60
million tourists alone. The energy of the city is truly inspirational, and when
you’re there, it’s hard to think about being anywhere else.

History

New York took on its name in 1664. Previously it was called New Amsterdam, named
by the Dutch settlers who took the area from the Native Americans they discovered
there. The Dutch fled to modern day New York to escape political and religious
persecution in 1624. Years later, the English seized the land and renamed it New York in
honor of the Duke of York.

New York is very culturally diverse with no main ethnicity taking control of the area.
The ethnicities with the most New York citizens are White, Black, Hispanic/Latino, and
Asian/ pacific Islander. With such an intermixed society, all groups are rightfully treated
as equals because no group or ethnicity necessarily makes up a majority or minority for
the state.

New York was originally crowned the capitol of the United States, and in 1789,
George Washington gave his inauguration as the first President of The United States.
More recently, was the tragedy of 9/11, where two airplanes were directed straight
into the two buildings of the world trade center. This changed the way airlines operate
forever. Security is the top priority for airline companies, and no one can stand in their
way when it comes to the safety of their passengers.

Weather

Temperature patterns in New York are
more predictable then you’d think. Obviously
for it being in the Northwestern Hemisphere,
it’s warm in the summer months from May to
August and from then on it gets pretty chili
until January when temperatures drop to a
consistent ‘’negative’’ temperature. Then, there is a steady rise back to a warm
temperature.

Due to such a mild temperature during the summer months, tourism in New York
peaks every year from April to June and again from November to December when the
cool temperatures have not yet reached unbearable. From January to March however,
tourism in New York drops drastically due to frigid temperatures and snowstorms that
can lead to unpredictable outcomes. Visitors are still welcome throughout these heavy
winter months though with less expensive airfare and accommodations. If you love the
cold and you love Broadway, go up to New York during those winter months for less
crowded performances and a cheaper hotel room. But if you want to see all New York
has to offer, go during the summer months, when you’ll be able to walk outside
comfortably and bear witness to everything that makes New York great.

Tourism

People from all over come to New York to bask in the glory of a state that just has it
all. New York is the economic capital of the world, so naturally, many tourists come to
conduct business, whereas others are there just to have a good time, no matter why
they are there though, they will have no problem finding something amazing to do.
Tourists for this great state come from all over. Most are from the United States, but
frequent visiting countries include the United Nations, Canada, France, Brazil and
Germany. New York is famous for the amazing buildings and architecture of the main
city, the walls come to life with screens flashing every imaginable color. No matter what
you’re craving, there’s no doubt you’ll be able to satisfy your taste buds in New York,
they have food from every culture of the world and in New York, it’s right at your
fingertips. Fans of art also travel to New York for Broadway performances, art shows,
museums and the chance to breathe in the inspiration of a city full of dreamers.

With so many visitors, the hospitality and tourism industry in New York is booming
and contributing strongly to the economic prosperity of the state. In fact, in 2019, 66.6
million visitors in the city alone, spent over, ‘’$46 billion on hotels, restaurants, shops
and cultural institutions’’ (The power of NYC Hospitality).

For a person that would like to visit New York, I recommend staying at least five days.
There is far too much to do in New York, that if you even want to catch a glimpse,
you’ve got to commit yourself to making the most of every second, because the time
will fly by so fast.

Transportation

The main way tourists travel to New York is by Airplane. Cars are of course welcome
traveler facilitators, but I think you will find it a lot harder to get around logistically if
you put yourself in charge of getting from one place to the next.

Air travel: Air travel in New York is always booming. They have several airports in the
state including the JFK airport, and the LaGuardia Airport. These airports do business
with many airlines That are both international and domestic. Some airlines based in
these New York airports are the United airline, JetBlue, spirit airlines, Alaska Airlines,
Turkish Airlines, Delta, and the Aeroflot airline.

Water Travel: Water travel in New York is more for recreation then it is for
transportation. Through the waterways of New York travel 27 vessels connecting 21
ferry peers. Some of these recreational companies include Circle Line Cruises, New
York Water Taxi, North River Lobster Company, World Yacht Charters, and the Beast
Speedboat Ride Company. New York bays also harbor the Manhattan and Brooklyn
terminal that host cruise ships from all over the world including the Norwegian bliss,
Encore, and Getaway ships.

Ground Travel: New York has many roads hand streets for cars to take. The streets
however are often full of both foot traffic end automobile traffic. Most people find it
easiest to either hail a taxi or take the underground subways. The Metro otherwise
known as Met is the most common type of underground travel and the largest
company name of New York travelers’ daily life.

New York City is an exceptionally large area. On top of that, it is very densely

populated. Many workers of New York live in neighboring cities for the lower costs and

rent prices. These people get to work every day by taking ferries, trams or riding
underground on the subways. Many people however live in the city and are able to
walk to where they need to go because New York is so compact, and you can find so
much on just one block. If you have come to New York with a job to do, the easiest ways to get around, would be to either take a taxi, or to go underground on the Metro.
The Met connects all places in New York and can get you anywhere you need to go as
long as you know how to navigate it and it is a perfectly fine way to travel if you are
comfortable with tight spaces and being surrounded by many people. the taxi service is
an easy way to get around when you have a job to do and places to be. It is a vastly
different environment from the met because you and your driver are the only people
in the car. New York roads however are unpredictable and busy with thousands of
people on a very tight schedule, so there is no telling what anxiety will come over you
when you are sitting in the back of a taxi car in New York. If you are in New York to go
sightseeing or just have a good time, hailing a taxi or riding on the met underground
are still very easy options for you, but there are also ways of water travel to get you to
explore, and see more of New York. There are Water taxis, and Circle Line Cruises that
will take you around the River or Lake and show off the beautiful city of New York. If
you are in the city however the best way of travel I believe is to walk. New York has an
energy unmatched by any other place. To be able to walk down the streets and see the
architecture and the people and just breathe in the energy of the city is its own
experience. Luckily for tourists and travelers, modes of transportation are cheap. You
can ride on the met or take a taxi for only a few dollars. Of course, if you wanted to,
there are more high-end dollar options like the River cruises or the water taxis but it all
just depends on you and the time you want to have.

Accommodations

New York City is an attraction millions of people travel to every year to experience.
The city itself is so exiting, there is really no need for resorts nearby, because New York
City is the experience. Hotels in this area are all geared toward tourists and business
travelers. They do their best to compliment the guests’ experience with the city and
provide the most comfortable place to come back to after a long day of business and
or sightseeing.

Although New York is described as a megacity, surrounding locations are not as
active and allow visitors to experience the slower pace of suburban life while staying
close to the heart of the city. Many Airbnb sites locate themselves just outside the city
for less competitive pricing and a more relaxed venue. There are also countless
campgrounds on the opposite side of the Hudson Bay and surrounding areas for
families to enjoy the fast-paced city life during the day, and return to a slow paced,
campfire setting at night

Recreation and Entertainment

It’s hard to think of a more involved city when it comes to recreation than New York
City. It’s the City the never sleeps with endless opportunities and adventures. No
matter what you’re looking for it’s almost a guarantee that NYC will have it. It’s home
to Broadway, the Rockette’s and one of the most spectacular skylines you’ll ever see.
There are also many parks for you to enjoy if you’re looking to escape the fast pace of
the city for a couple hours. Don’t forget about the famous Statue of Liberty surrounded
by the beautiful Hudson River. Many boats will take you away from shore to get a
closer look at this monument representing the freedom of this great country.

3 Days of Family Fun in NYC!

Day 1

Get a feel for what New York City life is like on your first day in town, sightseeing can come later in a place like this!

MORNING
Spend your morning walking the streets of Times Square and go shopping in one of the
most crowded shopping centers of the world. Absorb the energy of this amazing city
and see why it’s called the city that never sleeps. I guarantee there will never be a dull
moment when you’re walking the streets of Times Square.
AFTERNOON
Spend your afternoon in the peaceful and beautiful Central Park. There are a couple of
small restaurants and food trucks to eat at in Central Park, but spend your time
enjoying the majesty and the spaciousness of this beautiful park with only the faintest
sense of the city in the background.
NIGHT
At night have a family dinner at Ellen’s Starlight Diner. It provides yummy food and
constant entertainment from workers who hope to one day find themselves on the
stages of Broadway. Sit back, eat a delicious meal while the workers serenade you and
keep the energy up.

DAY 2
Time to go sightseeing and enjoy the city!

MORNING
Before going anywhere, try one of New York’s famous bagels from the countless
authentic bagel shops. You won’t be disappointed, and it’ll be a great way to start the
day.
MID-MORNING/AFTERNOON
Get yourself over to Pier 36 where you’ll find a cruise ship and boat ride waiting for
you. For a decent price you and your family will find yourself circling the Statue of
Liberty from the water that surrounds it. It’s very beautiful, and a great way to spend
an afternoon with your family in appreciation for everything you have and this great
country we live in.
NIGHT
Spend your night watching the sun set above the biggest city in the world from the
tallest possible tower. New York’s One World Observatory will have you in awe of the
city from over 100 stories high! It’s the tallest building and the best view you could
hope to get of the most magnificent city of the world. And once the sun goes down,
watch as the lights come on and the city once again becomes illuminated, now by light
sources man made.

DAY 3
Take a day to enjoy the experience and reflect on the wonders of the city. And then
end your trip with a bang!

MORNING
Take a couple hours to sleep in or grab a great local breakfast from one of the world renowned restaurants and cafes originating in the city.
AFTERNOON
Spend the afternoon at New York’s American Museum of Natural History. Take this
opportunity to expand your knowledge of yourselves with your family and appreciate
the countless beauties afforded to us by this world. Grow with your family and learn
just how we came to be.
NIGHT
The first thing you did on this trip was visit Time’s Square, so it’s only fitting that it’s
the last thing you do as well. You’ll spend the night attending a Broadway show. Your
minds will be blown, and the edge of your seat is going to be very tired by the time
you’re done with it. After the show, walk out on to Time’s Square for the first time at
night and take in the beauty of the lights and energy literally illuminating all around
you. Experience the raw energy and joy of the city one last time before it’s time to
leave in the morning.
