One month left. Wow, that is scary. I’ve been to India, but everything was taken care of for me, well except for packing. This time, it’s all me. I’m not so sure being an adult is that much fun, but chalk this up to being another learning experience in college, a big one. I though living in a dorm was wild and adventurous, and for someone from a small town, it is. Now I’m living in a dorm again, but with a different swing to it, it happens to be in Italy. Specifically it is about 15 kilometers southeast of Rome on the outskirts of a little town called Albano.
Albano is the location of the Pope’s summer palace. I think the school told us that they are on the edge of its property, maybe, maybe not. However, we are situated next to the oldest road leading to Rome. They do say “All Roads Lead to Rome.” I think this is the proverbial they, cause I haven’t met them yet. There are all kinds of nifty little facts about it, but I don’t remember all of them, I’ll share when I get there.
So all I’ve been doing to
Taj Mahal
i'm on the right, with my friend deena on the left. prepare myself is buying stuff and that’s exactly what it is, stuff. There is a box in my room that is overflowing with things that supposedly I’ll need. Well I don’t know if that is true or not, but it is creating a lot of clutter, and I’m not to tidy to begin with, so it is pilling up. I should be studying my Italian too, which I was pretty good at the beginning of the summer and I went through my 3 inch thick stack of verbs and over some vocabulary. Yet, that was the yey-I’m-excited-and-want-to-be-well-prepared me. Now I’m just excited and the studying has ceased. Dr. Zocchi would be ashamed I think. However, it is my intentions to commence the studying again. Really I think I just need to find myself a hot Italian guy and tell him to teach me, kind of like in “The Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants” except I’m not in Greece staying with my grandparents. Nope, I’m leaving them here.
I’m going to miss them so much, along with everyone else, sure, but this summer I’ve really gotten to know my grandparents, and I love them so much. Two days after I leave my cousin is getting married, so that is another thing I’m going to miss. Oh yes, and the best holiday out of the whole entire year, Thanksgiving. Instead of eating with all of my extended, loud, and fun family, I’ll be touring the Vatican museums. Oh how fun. No football, especially high school football, once again I’m missing the whole entire season. Actually I just really care about the band. That’s right, I’m a band nerd, or was. High school seems like such a long time ago. Friends that I used to hang out with, but now don’t even recognize as the same people, activities that I loved with a passion, and me. I’ve changed.
I wouldn’t think that one year of college could do that to a person. However, I come back to Panhandle and nothing is the same. The new me is a little sad to see it all go, but in the back of my mind I can’t wait to turn my European adventure into the life style that I want. I love different cultures. America is great, they (yup there they are again) say we are the great melding pot of the world, and I love to just watch people here to see what kind of people they are, how they fit in. Yet, I know from experience that I’ll be affected by the culture I’m submersing myself in. In some way I want to develop those characters that the majority of people I know want to go and be around, but I love who I am. Texan, but so much more than that.
Ok, so I know I’ve gotten off subject a bit, but this is me. And to understand what you will be reading off of this page, that is essential. So hello ya’ll and sit tight, cause I’m going to Italy, and who knows will come back.

A New World
Yeah we are all sad to see you go but the great adventures you could and will find. Most definitely you should find you a hot Italian guy (make sure he has some Indian in him, lol) to teach you things and show you around. I know you will miss Thanksgiving but getting to tour the Vatican museums is a rare chance in life and sometimes not a chance at all. I am sorry I missed your party but I really will miss you because you won't be in the same state or even in the same country. I can't wait to see what adventures and souveniers (I think I misspelled that) you bring back.
