We left Mom's and headed first thru Shreveport and further east before turning south. We then went to southern Louisiana. The next day we toured the Tabasco factory on Avery Island. We stayed in that area only a day or two before heading along the Gulf coast. We made a stop at Long Beach, MS. We stayed at a great RV park called Magic River RV. It is owned by one of the owners of "Passport America". We are faithful customers of that organization. The park there only has about 15 spots. It is small enough that you get to know some of the other RVers there. We loved it. So far, it is my favorite park we've stayed in.
From there we went to New Orleans for a day trip. We rode a triple decker tour bus and saw much of the city that way. Of course, Les would never be happy unless we walked a few miles. So we did some of that also. We made sure to eat a little Cajun food while we were in that area.
We took a little tour in Biloxi, MS. That was fun. Much history there.
We spent lots
of time walking on the beaches along the Gulf Coast. Many pics were posted on FB.
Eventually we headed on to Florida to see my friend Jody Trichler. We headed south along the Gulf Coast (west coast) of Florida. We spend a week camped in Tampa and did some sight-seeing there. We rode a riverboat and got to see lots of multi-million dollar hones with hugh yachts docked out front. We went down until we were just opposite Fort Lauderdale, then we went across the state on what is called "Alligator Alley". We didn't see any alligators during that drive unless you count the road-kill that Les swears was a small alligator. I didn't see it, but maybe it was. We saw lots of alligators in shows.
From Fort Lauderdale (we stayed there a week), we headed south in our vehicle to Key West. That was a nice drive. We spent the day down there. This was one place on my original bucket list. The first list only had 10 items on it. My newer list is pages & pages long. But I've crossed off Key West now.
While camped in Fort Lauderdale we went to Jupiter
to visit my friend Jody. It always does my heart good to see old friend! And Jody is one of my oldest friends. I met her when I was about 7 months pregnant with Tisha. This was late 1970. She & her first husband moved in with us for 3 weeks when I had Tisha, in order to help me out during my recovery. Only a true friend would do that. We have a bond that can never be broken. It was soooo good to see her!
After Jupiter we headed on north on the east coast of Florida (on the Atlantic side). We stopped in Daytona to take a tour of the Daytona International Speedway. We both enjoyed that. We also walked on the beach there. It is so different from the beaches in other parts of Florida. After Daytona we started back toward East Texas for Thanksgiving. We spent one night in a park near Tallahassee called "Yogi Bear's Jellystone RV Resort". It was nice and quite unique. It would be a great place to go in the spring or summer with the kids or grandkids.
We went back thru Long Beach, MS and stayed there
a few more days. That is such a unique RV park.
We made it back to Mom's about a week before Thanksgiving. We found Mom to be doing much better. My daughter & some of the grandkids arrived a few days after we did. It was so good to see them.
We stayed another few days after Thanksgiving, then headed to Glenrose, TX to see the dinosaur tracks. We stayed there a few days. That is really a great little town with lots to see & do. It is south of Weatherford and Granbury. I would love to take the smaller grandkids.
From there we finally headed back to Odessa so that Les could work New Year fireworks season. This gave me more time with my kids and grandkids and the kids of Fannin Terrace.
Tomorrow I'll go into our plans for the near future. I fully intend to get back in the habit of blogging, as we start this new leg of our trip. So check back in.
