The Amazing Skyline Not surprisingly at all, the closer to New Orleans the less disciplined I have been in keeping up on the travel blog. Let me give a quick update and get everyone caught up on the adventures, sights, sips and sounds of the past couple of days.
On Friday, we left San Antonio for Houston - a big, beautiful city with immense skyscrapers, bustling streets and very fast traffic.
Interesting road experience on the way there: stopping for lunch in Columbus, Texas for bar-b-q. "World Famous" Jerry Mikaska's Bar-B-Q. Great sandwiches but what was notable was the decor. My apologies to my vegan/vegetarian friends and loved ones, but in addition to meat playing a starring role on the menu, the entire restaurant was packed - floor to ceiling with stuffed animals. Not the teddy bear variety, taxidermied. Fish, bears, squirrels, deer, rabbit - you name it, it's stuffed and displayed on the walls. Quite a surreal experience as you enjoy your bar-b-q meat sandwich to have 100 pair of eyes of stuffed animals watch as you graze. So sorry that I didn't grab my camera when we made the stop - this memory will simply have to live in

The Flying Saucer our minds and hearts - and you will have to take my word - it was very weird!!
We had every intention of attending an Astros game, but quickly ran out of steam. Instead, we walked a few blocks to The Flying Saucer, a beer bar that has over 300 beers on tap. We crammed in with the afterwork happy hour crowd and the baseball pre-party revelers and had a great time. We only had a few short hours before our long drive to New Orleans so we played it pretty quiet and saw a movie.
Not a terribly good one, mind you - Robin Hood with Russell Crowe. But the quiet night gave us a perfect amount of energy for the next day!! New Orleans, baby!!
