Trip Day 2
Travel Day 2
Our second travel day went much smoother than our first, and I expect each day will get even easier. Unless there is a need to we do not plan to set an alarm clock to start our day. (For me that is not a problem, I am an early riser.) Much like the boat there is a little prep work to do before we depart. It is much easier with the RV, we do not have to worry about the wind, tides or currents, but we do try to keep traffic in mind. Because we did not have any hookups, and we did not disconnect the jeep from the RV it only took about ten minutes to get the RV ready to travel.
We are still learning the RV and what works best and how the different system work. When we are dry camping (much like anchoring on the loop) we rely on our house batteries and propane. The propane tank has a gauge on it, and it was showing 2/3 of a tank, but we have no idea how long it will last.
After running the heat all night and the water heater, the gauge did not seem to move at all, we still plan on filling the tank as soon as possible. The batteries are a differnet story, around 5am, our newly installed battery monitor started beeping telling me that the batteries were low. Since we were the only RV there, and far enough from any buildings we ran the generator for an hour to charge the batteries. Since then I have figured out the battery monitor was not figured correctly. (Angel should fire the guy that installed and configured it LOL).
We left the winery around 8:30 and were back on I95 10 minutes later. Most of the trip was smooth and easy, we did stop for fuel (both gas & propane) that was not so easy. We first stopped at Flying J, and they did not have anyone there that could fill propane, so we continued on. We decided to try going to Love's, thier web site said they were "RV Friendly". They were far from RV friendly. They did have 6 RV parking spots and that was it. While waiting to get gas we blocked in at least
8 cars. Getting out of was not any easier, and we decided to skip getting propane. Driving through North Carolina traffic was light and we made good time, right up until we go to South Carolina.
Our next stop was another Harvest Host in Timmonsville SC. We spent the night at Ellerbe Vegtable Farm. What a wonderful stop. As we pulled into the driveway I was a little concerned, as it did not appear there was anywhere for me to park. Within seconds of pulling in Jessica, on of our host came out to greet us, and said to just wait and her husband Harold would be home in minutes to direct us. As promised Harold arrived and guided us to our parking spot, leaving room for the next 4 guest that we comming for the night.
Harrold and Jessica and thier kids farm about 20 acres of vegetables. Harolds family lives on the surrounding properties, and his grandfather use to have a farm on the same property. Aside from the fresh vegetables that we bought from them, the highlight of the night was when Harold offered to cook dinner from us. We knew from the Harvest Host
reviews that he often does this, but we thought he only did it on the weekends. Harold is a great cook and we had a delicious meal of Steak & Shrimp with Stir Fried Vegetables and Red Skin Mashed Potatoes. We ate dinner with another family that was staying the night, a husband and wife and thier 5 kids. They live full time in a 5th wheel camper and home school the kids. The amazing part is the wife is wheelchair bound and blind. And I thought we lived an adventure.
Ellerbe Farms is going to be a tough Harvest Host site to top.
Our next stop is Blythe Island Georgia.
