This trip started when Jim and Nanci picked up Terry and me and headed toward the Pittsburgh Airport. It was a fun ride with much laughter. Since Jim doesn’t really like to drive in Pittsburgh, I arranged for a driver to meet us at Cabela’s and drive us the remainder of the way to the airport.
Louis was such a delight! He was a great driver but an even better conversationalist. He enjoyed the trip up so much that he’s going to request to pick us on the way home from Europe.
There was literally no one in the airport! I was shocked!! The only problem we had was with getting the wheelchair we’d requested for Nanci. It took forever. We could have walked to the gate and back several times while waiting. Finally someone showed up!!
We were TSA Pre Check so we breezed through screening and was at our gate in no time. We had several hours before our flight to NYC so there was only one or two others at the gate. As it got closer to the time of the flight the seating filled up!!
Right before boarding time, Nanci heard our names
on the loud speaker. The attendant saw Nanci was in a wheel chair so she came over to us with papers in hand. “I just wanted to let you know you’ve received a complimentary upgrade to first class!” In all my years of travel that’s never happened!
We boarded our flight on time and we are in the second row of seats! So. We’re in first class. The flight attendant is taking drink orders. Nanci had already had a spicy v8 with no ice. The FA got my drink order, then took Nanci’s and asked No ice? Nanci replied Yes. The FA brings our drinks. She says you meant yes no ice right and my quick reply was yes she’s a weirdo (meaning no ice). The FA says that’s what I thought. I busted our laughing. She started stammering around. No that’s not what I meant I meant that’s what I thought yes no ice. We were all laughing. She came back later and said we made her day!! Oh what a trip this is going to be!!
We made it to JFK where we have about a 4 hour layover. Nanci’s wheelchair driver was a crazy driver
and fast! He about ran my legs off getting to the next gate.
We had free access to the Delta Sky Lounge so we took advantage and headed up there. It wasn’t too crowded and the food and drinks were great!!
Our big flight from JFK to Edinburg was full, but we already had first class seats, which I had never done before on a long flight. Oh my! I could get used to flying first class! Great food, real dishes, warm wash clothes, free drinks! It was awesome!!
Sadly I hardly slept. I really thought. I’d sleep in those lay down seats…..but I didnt…can you say tired????
