Awoke to a beautiful day. It is so nice to not be on any time schedule. We took all day to travel 60 miles down the coast. We stopped at Pacific Beach which was outstanding. I cannot say enough about the beautiful beaches on this coastline. We would drive for about 15 minutes and feel like we had to stop again and again to take it all in. Breathtaking beaches.
We picnicked on a bluff overlooking the beach, having the best view in town! After a long walk on the beach we made our way to our Yurt campsite at Beverly Beach State Park.
It poured rain all night and the following day was gray and drizzly.
The next morning we went into the town of Newport. We had passed through Newport 30 years ago on our move to Seattle. It had grown considerably so we looked for the historical part of town which was dominated by the fish cannery and the local sea lions.
We try and stay away from touristy spots with tacky tourist shops. One can find them all over America; we just try to avoid them. Our idea of shopping is to visit antique stores. After visiting a couple of exceptional glass galleries, we went back to camp and enjoyed an evening of reading and cards. Ah yes, cards. We have an ongoing gin rummy game for this trip. I am currently leading by about 500 points😊
