We left Edisto on Sept 8th about 11:30 am. Linda, David and Dee Dee escorted us out the creek. It was a great stay in Edisto and we plan to stop mid October on our return trip south.

We went off shore overnight. The first part of the trip was great, good winds and only 2 ft seas. During the night the winds and seas picked up. It got a little rough out there. The auto steering bracket bolts broke so we duck taped it for the night. Due to the higher winds and confused seas we motored from about 2am.

We arrived in Georgetown about 8:30 am and tied up to the public docks. Later we pulled across from the public docks and anchored for two nights. We had about 6 items to repair or change. Piggly Wiggly grocery store will pick you up and bring you back so we went to the store and stocked up on many supplies. Georgetown was an old southern town worth a visit. We walked around town and visited some of the area.

Harborwalk Marina was great as we could hook up to the internet at anchor in the

boat. On the Morning of Sept 11th we went to Harborwalk and filled with Diesel (9 gallons) and water.

We then proceeded up the ICW to just above Bucksport Sc and anchored for the Night in a little offset area called Oxbow at ICW mile 375.

On Sept 12 we continued up ICW toward Little River. We had hoped to anchor in Calabash creek at Little River SC but could not get in there due to about 4’ depths. We need 5’ for Midnight Escape. We continued up the ICW to Shallotte River and anchored in the river for the night. It was a good evening and night.

In the AM we got up, having our coffee and Carol was preparing breakfast. We had already been thru two tide changes and had no problems. We had the depth and anchor alarms set. Before breakfast was finished, the alarms started going off. The incoming tide was strong and getting swifter, it was moving us upstream at 2-3 knots and the anchor was not grabbing. We dropped another stern anchor and got us stopped in about 6’ of water and heading into the creek for

a sure grounding.

We still moved a little and the incoming tide was getting stronger. Since we do have Towboat US insurance for this we called them and they came out to assist. He tied up to us and when the tide slackened we were able to get the bow anchor up and then the stern. Great people and Tom was a good captain.

We then moved on to Southport NC and are sitting here in the harbor updating the blog. Carol is out in the little boat casting for fishing bait (Gold). Southport is a nice little southern port. I will include pictures next blog.

I usually include a few spelling or other errors in the post to see if you are paying attention. If you respond with the corrections you will be put into a drawing at the end of our adventure for a one of a kind prize.

Cheers,

Ron & Carol

This is the last ICW pontoon bridge on the East coast. It opened to allow us to pass. It will be replaced next month by the high bridge in the distance.

Thanks for the update
Hey Guys, Great to hear you're doing well. I've been up that way before also. Isn't the Wacamaw River north of Georgetown a great ride? I stayed behind that island at the bend in Bucksport too. It was a great place and the water was freshwater! did you stay in that little round harbor with the restaurant on it at Southport? Looking forward to hearing more. (thank goodness for that towboatus insurance huh!) Have a great trip. Mark
