Almost There !Almost There !Almost There !

About two miles before docking to Ocracoke Island you can see the begining of the shoreline !
Recently i took a trip to Ocracoke Island in NC , July 31st 2007 . As the Cedar Island ferry prepared to dock , i snapped this photo coming into our first view of the island . This was an amazeing view ! God's hand at work showing his finest art ! As you come ashore....you get the feeling of peace and serenity . This is an island the stretch's 16 miles in length and is only accessable by boat . The small village that survives there is a quaint little village that is early to bed and early to rise . Great fishing and water activites of every kind ! The food is great and the people are extreamly nice and take pride in thier village . There is a history of the lost soilders and blackbeard on the island and just about every supply you will need for your stay . There are a few B&B , a few campgrounds , a few nice condo type hotels with great views ! The island is small so the streets are narrow and is best seen by bikeing . Bikes are avaiable for daily rental at the rate of $14.00 a day , and so worth it ! We stayed at the campground operated by the reserve and it was fantastic ! Tho be sure to bring some type of shade covering as it is on the ocean nesseled in the dunes with no shade ! There are chaters for fishing , Great ice cream shops for that end of the day cool down with wooden rockers to sit and watch the bikes go by . Most restraunts close by 10 and dont open again untill 11 am for brunch . Breakfast consists of a great cup of coffee and a fresh baked bagel from the only coffee shop in town to open up early , it is nesseled on the back roads with a cafe type setting both indoors and out .! If you are looking for that peace and tranquility away from tv's, honking horns , and over crowded beaches ...this is the place for you !! This is fantastic for that personal couple get away , or the family that enjoys sitting around the bonfire roasting marshmellow's listening to the sounds of the waves rush to shore ! . The water is just as blue and clean as

Ocracoke Island Beach Bliss ! This is a shot of the beach just over the other side of the sand dune's from our camprground operated by the National Park reserve , There are no shade trees so if you choose to stay here be sure to bring something for the shade . This is a very nice camprground , equiped with grills and pinic tables , cold running showers and water stations , the gates never close so you are free to come and go as early and as late as you want . This is a steel at the cost of $ 23.00 a night ! Check out time is noon the next day . Campers meet on this beach in the evening time for big bonfires with fireside chats and get to know one another !

This is a snap shot of four unknow officers of the British vessel HMS Bedfordshire . The 170 foot trawler was one of the fleet of 24 antisubmarine ships that prime minister Winston Curchill loaned the united states in April of 1942 . To strave off German U-Boats . May 11th of 1942 a german submarine torpedoed and sank the british ship 40 miles south of Ocracoke Island . In Total 37 men were lost with only these four unknow bodies washing ashore. The town people gave britian a 12 by 14 foot plot to bury the seamen .
