Mornings always start with caffeine at the Starbucks across from the hotel. It is a great place to sit and people watch. We stepped out today with our coffees and plop, a pigeon on the Starbucks sign tried to bomb me, but I was too quick or just a little lucky today. The bird-bomb landed harmlessly to my left. Today our goal was to figure how to get to where we wanted to go via the subway. After failing to understand the subway map we asked Google to navigate to Chelsea Market and chose the subway logo, instead of the car, and behold Google told where to walk to, which subway stop and which train (the E train), and what time the next several trains arrived. We purchased and loaded a Metro-card, swiped it at the turnstile and we were at the edge of the tracks. We looked around nervously, not wanting to be pushed in front of the oncoming subway or get zapped by the 3rd rail! (too many New York movies!) The train arrived and we stepped aboard after the purge of people vomited forth. When we got on board I was pleasantly surprised, the car was clean, air-conditioned,
and no one tried to pick my pocket, as far as I could tell! (sorry New York family, we're not from around these parts). Google told us which stop to get off at and then guided us to Chelsea Market, a food hall, shopping mall, office building and TV production facility located in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan. It used to be a Nabisco factory where they made Oreo cookies. We discovered a great bagel called the Davidovich, a gluten free bagel, lox, cream cheese, capers, tomatoes, onions and lettuce - I will have to remember the recipe since it was named after me. We foodied our way through, then made our way to the nearest entry point of the High Line Park. The High Line is an elevated linear park, greenway and rail trail. It was saved from demolition, re-purposed and built atop an abandoned New York Central Railroad spur on the west side of Manhattan. It was about 85 degrees outside and we were overdressed for the heat and humidity. We thought New York would be under siege from all of the tropical storms heading up the east coast, but we have stayed high and dry (and I

The bakery on the right is where Meryl Streep made croissant for Steve Martin in the movie It's Complicated. don't mean stoned and sober!) We spent some time exploring the High Line and buildings that that it coursed through. Then we were back on the subway to the hotel where I had a teleconference meeting in the afternoon. Glenda perused the guide book and google and found a place where we could listen to live jazz in a historic jazz club in Manhatten. I wanted to stay in for the night and watch the BSU football game, but made a deal with Glenda that if she could get us last minute reservations, we would go. She called the concierge at the hotel and we got reservations for the 8:30 gig at Birdland. We were told to get their at 7pm, so we cleaned up and Ubered to the jazz club. We were the second and third in line and Glenda started up a conversation with the gal in front of her, soon they were best friends. She played Annie on Broadway when she was 10 and is now married to the director of Food and Beverage at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Central Park (where we were headed the next day) The husband soon arrived and we were
all seated. We were seated next to them (Stacy and Glenda were back to back). We heard some GREATJAZZ from the John Coltrane Revisited band, with John Coltrane's original piano player. They come together each year for a few days and play on John Coltrane's birthday. After the gig, Glenda and Stacy visited while I looked at all the photos on the walls of the great jazz players the played there since the 1930's. When I got back, Glenda had Stacy and Christopher's phone number and email address, with instructions to call when we were back in town, they would hook us up with more Jazz tickets, (they were connected!) Glenda never ceases to amaze me with her outgoing persona (although I tease her relentlessly). We ubered back to the hotel via Time Square (crazytown) and crashed with the sounds of Alto Sax playing in our brains.

Looks like you two are having a blast! Take care of that knee, Glenda!
