Cindy at Philipburg Manor
By the parking lot. This is where we had a lot of fun just hanging around. My sister & I went here for a weekend getaway. It was good. We ate at Mr. Nick's Pizza ~ brick oven pizza. It was good and they were friendly. Afterwards, we heading to Philipsburg Manor for the Horseman's Hollow, which is a haunted estate. Before entering, Cindy & I just hung around the property, taking pictures of each other and having a simply good time. Then, you walk down this path which is only lit by candles. It was very dark and very long, probably close to 1/4 mile long. Then you come upon the visitors center and gift store. In the parking lot, where you wait to enter the Horseman's Hollow, they had character actors walking around, trying to scare people. The Headless Horseman was there riding his horse. You'll see several pictures of him. After entering, you walk down another long path, lit by candles, just to get to where the "action" is. Then we entered the haunted part of the estate. There was a lot of walking, 2 corn mazes, but we didn't find it that scary. There was a lot of suspense. We were hoping for my people to try and scary us, but they didn't.
Maybe we were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Nonetheless, it was still good. I'm glad we went.
We were suppose to go to the dramatic reading of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow", but my sister didn't order tickets on time and they were sold out. So, after our night out, we went back to the hotel, drank some wine, then went in the pool & hot tub. It was a good night. I also planned out our next day, so it wasn't a waste of time.
After breakfast, we went to Sunnyside, Irving's homestead. We didn't take the tour, but you also couldn't walk the grounds without a ticket. I can only assume the tour guide talks about the grounds, which is why they charge to walk around the ground. So, we were disappointed in that. Then we headed up good old route 9 for our next stop, which was Patriot's Park. Here, Icabod Crane met the Headless Horse in this marshy section. Since then, the town has drained the marsh and there's just a small brook in loo of the marsh. Afterwards, we went down to the river walk It was nice, walking
Horseman Hollows ~ Headless Horseman
Here he is while waiting to go inside the Horseman's Hollow. along the Hudson River and next to the Tappan Zee Bridge. I had to take photos of the bridge & river for Dean.
Following this side trip, it was off to Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, where Washington Irving is buried. They have maps to pick up and find, not only Irving's grave site, but also, Carnegie, Chrysler, and many other famous people grave site. It's a beautiful cemetery on 90 acres of land. While meandering around the cemetery, we stopped at the bridge where Icabod Crane had crossed over while trying to escape the Headless Horseman. Irving's was the last grave site we saw and the tour happened to stop while we were there. I learned that people use to take pieces of headstones as a souvenir. The headstone marking Irving's place is the 3rd one. Also, the Headless Horseman showed up at the cemetery.
