My parents took another two year furlough, living in Nyack again from the summer of 1980 to the summer of 1982. They wanted us to come to the States for the Christmas of 1981 and to celebrate my Grandfather Northcott’s 95th birthday. I also had business to attend to in Florida.

12 - 17 December 1981 Saturday through Thursday. We flew from Frankfurt to Miami where my sister Sue and husband Rob picked us up at the airport on Saturday afternoon.

On Monday I took care of business that would make me a Florida resident as I had no intention of ever moving back to Virginia, and didn't want to keep paying state taxes to that state.

We toured around the West Palm Beach area with them. Our new nephew, Brendan, loved to eat at McDonalds so always asked to go to Mucacmucdonalds. We continue to call it by that name to this day.

18 – 19 December 1981 Friday and Saturday. Sue flew to Nyack while Rob drove Linda and I to DeLand FL to have lunch with my step grandmother Laura, and to St Simons Island GA to have dinner with Darryl and Marilyn and

Laura was assigned as a secretary to the U.S. delegation in San Francisco negotiating the creation of the United Nations. She typed the UN Charter. I have her certificate of appreciation signed by Alger Hiss who was later accused by Senator Nixon of being communist.
their children Melissa and Derreck. We spent the night in Florence, SC and the next day we drove the rest of the way to Nyack.

20 -25 December 1981 Sunday through Friday. We spent this time in Nyack. One day we went into New York City to see the Radio City Music Hall’s Christmas program with the Rockettes, and wander around Times Square. We then celebrated celebrated my grandfather’s birthday and then Christmas. Almost all of our relatives on my Mom's side of the family were there.

25 -31 December 1981 Friday through Thursday. We flew to Pittsburgh and on to New Castle, PA to finish Christmas with Linda’s family. We were there over New Years and went into Pittsburgh to see the Mellon Museum and other sights.

1 – 2 January 1982 Friday and Saturday. We flew back to Frankfurt arriving on Saturday morning and drove home to Boblingen.
