Today we were up just after 8:00am as I needed to drop off my point and shoot camera to be fixed at a place I had found on W 34th Street called Chrysler Camera Repair. As we were on that street anyway, we called in and had breakfast at the Tick Tock Diner at the New Yorker Hotel on the corner of 8th Avenue and W 34th St; the meals were great. From there we jumped on the subway to head down to the South Ferry terminal for our Statue of Liberty Cruise.
Luckily Marnee had prebooked our tickets online because the lines were huge. We were able to skip past most people and to board only took about 30mins as compared to the hours I'd have imagined it would take if she hadn't have booked.
As Marnee and I have done this before the trip out wasn’t overly exciting as we've seen it, but Nick enjoyed it. Once on Liberty Island made our way to the entrance but realised we were early so stopped for a drink of homemade lemonade at the pop up Bill’s Lemonade Stall. It was very refreshing.
Next we made our way through security then up the 354 steps to Miss Liberty's Crown. The view from the top was amazing but it was very small up there, not at all what they depicted in Ghostbusters. As there wasn’t much room it was also stifling hot; nearly 35degrees with absolutely no air flow.
We made our way down the stairs to the top of the podium she stands on to take some more photos then headed down to the ground for a bit of a walk around, again, taking some more photos.
We headed back to the ferry terminal to go back to Manhattan. Once again we bypassed getting off the ferry at Ellis Island.
Once back on Manhattan soil we jumped on the subway to Chinatown so I could take Nick and Marnee to the place where James and I had eaten dumplings the day before. This took a while as I was only going on memory of where it was but eventually we found it. Nick loved them, Marnee was hesitant and sceptical.
After lunch we headed in the direction of the financial district to head to the 9/11 Memorial at the bottom of the Freedom Tower. As expected this was a very sombre experience. It's amazing, like with the Holocaust Museum in DC, the feelings of sadness and then anger that were brought on by the death and destruction of the 9/11 events. The mangled metal of the towers, the chunks of concrete, the crumpled fire trucks, and the countless personal belongings that were left behind of those with us and some of the thousands who lost their lives on this horrible day in human history.
Nick finished it a lot quicker than Marnee and I but we met him out front. From there we went up to the Century 21 outlets where I bought some MAC makeup because it was quite cheap and I also got a Caravelle by Bulova watch that was only $29.95 marked down from $130; bargain!
From there we ventured to Little Italy for some dinner. We were trying to find somewhere when the spruiker out the front convinced us to come in to eat at La Bella Vita Ristorante as he said it had free wifi and the food was pretty good. He was right though, the food was good. Nick and I both got the Spaghetti Carbonara, mine with wine, Nicks with a Peroni. Marnee had pizza and a bourbon. After dinner we walked around Little Italy for a bit more before jumping in a cab back to the hotel.
