Wow!! We just returned from the Broadway production of “The Drowsy Chaperone”! It was a hugely enjoyable comedy/musical so cleverly scripted and produced. I guess we are looking at the some of the best performers in America so they might have been expected to do such a fine job. Our internet tickets were at one edge of the main floor. After talking to the usher letting him know we were from Canada and wished we had had a better choice of seats for early booking, he bent to whisper if some better seats were not taken right at opening, we could move over. He did return just a minute ahead and whispered we could take seats on an empty row two or three behind us and way over towards center. We made the move and wouldn’t you know, just before curtain time, a group of 8 people came to occupy that row. They just excused themselves, then slipped past us and sat in ... We never learned if we were in their seats but ... we were happy we could view from those choice seats. Our kind usher got a tip as we left that very enjoyable show. We actually bought

In the city one must keep looking up to appreciate the wonder of these tall buildings, this one the Rockefeller GE building with NBC studios within. Huge security.
tickets at the discount counter as we headed home for the show “Chicago” tonight (our last evening here). So we’re concluding the NYC stay with a real bang.

Temperatures are over 100 here today and humidity indexed much higher. The detectable breeze feels like a furnace. We found refuge in the Rockefeller Center where we visited many shops and such after we slipped underground past the Chanel Gardens. As we were talking to the security man inside at the counter, there was a huge explosion and we all dived to the floor! Well, no we didn’t dive to the floor but we were all plenty startled and the security people sprang to attention only to realize there was a woman exiting the building through the revolving doors carrying a large balloon bouquet and one of those balloons had exploded as it caught in the door.

We attended a second Broadway show tonight since we got half price tickets. It was “Chicago”.
Truth? A tremendous production and deep talent. But, truth? It was not close to as entertaining as the earlier show we saw. Just not our taste. Too much dark black costuming and scenery. The dominant orchestra

in center stage was a special effect but too much for us. And the language generally not our taste. What can I say? We are just happy the tickets were less expensive.

We shall sleep well if there is no power outage tonight. How they cope with the power needs of this city we don’t know. Anyway, we are done in New York.

It is morning now and time to send this blog entry. We will take our stuff and catch a taxi and take it to the 33rd street Penn Station, catch the train to Newark and then retrieve our parked car and head for the New Jersey Turnpike south, maybe staying at Gettysburg area tonight and on to Washington, DC on Friday and Saturday. Right now we are due home on Aug. 16. However, we may shorten the trip, depending on heat and such.
