It's nearly 1am on a Friday night and I'm writing our first blog of the summer. One more time, it's back on the road for a while. We left Bangkok on Thursday morning, for 19 hours on two planes, with a short one hour between those planes in Tokyo. And here we are, in the Big Apple, for a short 36 hours first stop, with nearly no clouds and a beautiful blue sky!
Landed at 6pm, got by 8pm to our hotel on 42nd Street and Third Avenue, great location. No parties on our first night. I may have stopped to count my number of visits to NY, but it's a first for Mari...so I'm the guide for two days, and our legs have better to follow the rythm!
First evening, we walk around the corner to hit 5th Avenue for our first stop, the Empire State building Observatory. I came here by summer, by winter, but I never did the ride by night, a first, and what a first! I would had hoped the place had been less crowded, we could have even attempted a long series of kisses...but hey, it's Fourth of July week-end coming, and the
crowds have already gathered around us! So for the kisses, the Empire will have to wait.
Next stop, it's already well behind 11pm, Times Square. Fifteen years ago, this would have been a very bad idea to room the place late evening...today it seems more like middle afternoon at 11pm in Times Square...the lights are there, the crowds too, and a very joviale athmosphere surround the area...family time for sure, we miss the little guys already! Leslie, we had hotdogs!!!
We head back to the comfort of our great bed...for a short night. By 6am this Friday, the jetlag hits both of us...another sunny day, and a pretty long day to come.
By 7am, we are on the way to downtown to ride the Staten Island ferry to have a closer look to Ms Liberty. Don't forget, I've got 36 hours to give a taste of the Big Apple to Mari, and in NY, I don't fail!
Back by 9am on land, Wall Street, we won't wait for you to open, we are alreday heading to breakfast...before heading to Chinatown and a small hop to Soho...shopping...later....well, we had a shopping list, and we simply fail to
find what we were looking for...snif! Credit card....happy!
It's time for another metro ride just south of NYU (if you don't know what it is...you don't know NY!). This time we are heading to the United Nations. A first for me. Twenty visits minimum to NY, and I never made it to visit the UN headquarters, I'm an idiot! We just had to wait 30 minutes for the guided tour...cute little latvian guide...well, my little hungarian is cuter (smile)! And yes, we visited the General Assembly Hall, but better we had access to the Security Council room too, wow, that was great! It's 1pm, time to head to Colombus Circus for a light lunch of salad bar. Yes, feet hurt! To rest...we walk more...where is the logic you ask, it's a sunny day in Central Park I reply....by 3pm we board a bus. It's time for a last bath and packing...we have a 4pm check-out!
Are we still alive...yes...and the day is not over. 4.30pm, drink with my dive buddy Scott, was great to see you again Scott. Three more hours of walking, yes, this time shopping. But we couldn't even find what we are looking for...it may
be the crisis...red stilettos and white bermudas (the first for Mari, the second for me...if you were wondering...) are a hard find early July in the Big Apple. Who cares! We have a meeting with Stephanie and Andras...sorry Liliram, I knew you were not in the Big Apple this week-end, so I didn't sent a PM!
It was the first time we met our fellow TB moderators and what a great evening, thanks guys! Dinner was at the Oyster Bar in Grand Central, love the place, with a nice little Sauvignon Blanc!
Our hotel is next door from Grand Central. Our flight is at 5.40am! To where this time? Well...the pink world...So we are killing time in the lobby of the hotel uploading pictures, and writing this entry. It's one AM, we haven't drink much, but are a little jetlag, excuse the style!
Ok I already read the mind of the "bad mouths."..what, you didn't finish your stay with a table and bubbles at Bungalow 8...sorry guys...we are a little dead...no dancing on tables tonight....and why would I care, my little Mari travel with me!
Next entry, more surprises....this time in Pink!
PS: Tiffany and
Leslie are for the next three weeks in Vietnam. Tiffany had a wonderful time in Bangkok...ok, let say it, she let herself dreamed few times of moving to Bangkok and attend the same school as Leslie....time will tell...we already miss our two little loves...but hey, more adventures to come with them pretty soon...more smiles...more icecream...more everything....
With love, departing from the Big Apple pretty soon....
