Our friends on the Tassie road trip
Quack!

It's been a few months, and our webbed feet are well soaked with the cold rain Goshen's been having. Where is that white stuff we saw in Denver? Snow? Didn't get much of that this year!

But soon we'll be off on our next adventure to Canada! Meanwhile, we've been busy little duckies, helping Mel choose photos for our "Duck Tales" book. Quack! It made for a fun little book to remember our adventures by. We didn't print endless copies of the books, so we'll have to post some photos and stories here!

Mel's been too busy to type this out for us, so it took us a long time to type. Gulliver kept falling for Aesop's tricks, which led to many misspellings, which delayed this blog entry even more! It's hard to type if you're only two small ducks! Quack!

Our favourites from the past year of traveling around with Mel:

* Sitting in snow one day (Denver, Colorado) and the next day sitting in the sun at Darling Harbour in front of the Sydney Opera House
* Trying to come to terms with the fact that the next day was actually 2

Playing in the rocks at Freycinet National Park in Tasmania
days later. Crazy time difference!
* Swimming at King's Canyon, and Kata Tjuta. Do you realise how dry that area is?! No rain in 4 months? Are they kidding?
* Finally getting to see Uluru at sunrise after going on tours there for 4 months
* Swimming in Karijini (those waters were cold! and those gorges deep!)
* Laying on a bed of moss in a temperate rain forest (Tasmania)
* Enjoying the Gordon River Cruise (Tasmania)
* Meeting lots of strange cousins - black swans and laughing birds ?! Whistling ducks that won't swim in the water?!
* Aesop says the whistling ducks won't swim in water because of the 7-metre crocodiles in there! Gulliver is pretty sure he saw some eyes peering up through the lily pads!
* Seeing the Aussie capital, Canberra
* Getting left behind at Parachilna, South Australia - sure, leave us behind in a town of 5 people! What were you thinking?
* Being held hostge in Parachilna by a tourguide named Spud, and being handed to another tourguide named Dean
* Having Dean bring us back to Mel (thanks Duck Deliverer!) in Adelaide.
* Being horrified that Mel lost all of our portrait

What a beautiful day at the Rock!
photos between Coober Pedy and Adelaide (we had some great ones!)
* Meeting a bobtail, aka shingleback aka lazy lizard in Parachilna (We're glad he wasn't hungry!)
* Getting nudged and licked by a kangaroo near Adelaide (We're glad he wasn't hungry either!)
* Trying to swim at Lake Hart in South Australia (what's up with the salty lakes?!)
* Not getting eaten by a crocodile
* Not getting swallowed by the sand goana at camp (he sure was hungry though!)
* Not getting bitten by a red back spider
* Not getting dropped on by a drop-bear
* Seeing wombats...but they wouldn't hold still long enough for a photo!
* Playing in the water beneath lots of waterfalls
* Climbing up (or rather, riding in Mel's bag as she climbed) Mt Bruce in Karijini, WA, and Mt Ohlssen-Bagge in the Flinders, SA
* Playing hide and seek among orange rocks, sea shells and seaweed on various beaches
* Watching a beautiful sunrise on an island in Malaysia
* Sitting in an island shack while Mel went snorkeling with turtles
* Seeing lots of cool little flowers like "blue pin-cushions" grow in the red sand after just a tiny bit

On the Hentley Sand Dunes in Tasmania
of rain
* Having lunch with a beetle on the Henty sand dunes in Tasmania
* Listening to Mel pick up a funny accent
* Listening to the reactions of other tour guide's to Mel's funny accent
* Learning some fair dinkum Aussie slang
* Aesop telling Gulliver that the Scared Wierd Little Guy's song, Deadly Creatures, was really written for the Aussie tourist board
* Finding out there are wild camels in Australia
* Watching as a dingo took Mel's bread (What? We weren't gonna stop him! He was massive!)
* Watching as Mel tried to chase after the dingo (what was she thinking?)
* Not getting taken by a dingo (Aesop told Gulliver that a dingo would! Mel confirmed this)
* Getting all red and dusty from traveling on dirt roads in the Outback
* Sleeping in all sorts of places, from hostels to swags in the dirt, from plywood shacks to fancy hotels.
* Soaking up the sun at some beautiful beaches

We had a wonderful time in Australia. We'd love to go back one day. Next our travels will take us into Canada! Until then, Quack!
