New York
The internationals in time square So, here is my first entry to let you guys know all about what is about to be the best summer ever!
My flight was the usual long and boring event, which was taken up by watching Family Guy and The Simpsons (as usual!)
We landed at JFK in New York, and had to wait for other people on other flights to arrive before we could head out to the accomodation...so 3 hours later, we were on our way!
Once we had got our rooms sorted, 2 other guys and myself went out for a wonder around the streets of NYC. Now, we were told..and I remember from last year, that when you leave the accomodation, turn right, not left..as left leads you right into the centre of Harlem! So we turned right and found a bar 2 blocks away, but lacked ID...so came out and turned left..and kept walking, until we were the only white people around and all the latino and black gangs hanging around outside the apartment buildings were holding baseball bats! To the rescue, came a domino pizza place, where we bought one each and headed, quickly, back to the rooms...as my body

Chilling out, maxing, relaxing clock was stil on UK time and said 4am!!
The next morning I met up with the other people who were coming to the same camp..all new to the experience, 2 Ukrainian girls and a guy from Montenegro. Jim, the camp director picked us up and, after picking up a scotish girl from a hostel across town, we came to camp..where Pat, the one other english guy who had done this 2 years ago was waiting.
Anyway, that was the beginning of staff week and all through that, while the newbies (people new to camp) were getting trained up on how to run the place...me and the other senior staff had to do all the paper work. Jenni, a girl who has been coming to this camp since she was 6, is the girls unit leader, so as i am the boys unit leader, we work very closely together and keep all the counsellors, junior counsellors, and counsellors in training (C.I.Ts) in order.
Staff week passed slowly, which was great, because it was so hot. We had a lot of staff soccer matches, including a tight, 1 hour long, 0-0, which we won 1-0 on penalties!

The backdrop to our kickabout. We then cleaned up camp on the friday morning and headed our seperate ways to have a chilled 36 hours before the games really begin and the campers arrive!
Our group, which consisted of all the international staff and Ben, an American who lives in New Jersey, headed back to his house and onto the big apple!
There we met Tara, a very good friend i made last year when she was a counsellor, and the one I partied with on my travels at the university of Virginia...her boy friend, and a counsellor from 2 years ago, who i met briefly last summer, called Shaun. We walked around New York, ate the best ribs, and got the bus back at 10pm to Bens, loaded with bags of booze! Party time!
After loads of card games...some I wil have to teach you guys..and bottles of beer and wine galore, it was 6am and we went to bed!
The next morning we drove back to new york and hit central park....after 30mins sitting there, Pat and I decided we had to buy a football...so we went for a walk..asked for sports shops in every coffee shop and restaurant

Jayne, Pat and Sian we passed (being English helpped!) and found one 10 blocks away. When we got back, the others were ready to leave...but we stayed to kick the ball about, and met the others 2 hours later to head out for some Japanesse food and back to camp!
It was to be a 6am start Sunday morning as the campers started arriving at 8am...so it was a great way to build up to it.
