iron tree Thursday
We’re losers. The lotto ticket was worthless. I guess we should have bought it at the Dunkin Donuts the first day. After eating at Panera bread, I fill my big glass with a giant diet Pepsi. Guess where it ends up? Luckily it lands in the multiple cups holds so there is not too much damage but it did take a while to clean up. This morning’s drive was heading inland and we saw barns, trees and rural scenery. I worked on the blog in back seat.
Our first stop was Concord NH (the capital). We made mom walk around the lovely downtown and capital. We saw statues, a fake liberty bell (bell painted with the crack) at the capital. There was a clock tower with bell that the hammer struck on the hour and an iron work like tree. The town was very nice. I would have liked to spent more time there.
Susan said Concord was the oldest state capital so once we got back into the car we google’d to check the facts. Well it is said the oldest is Sante Fe. We also learned a lot of

fake liberty bell crazy facts about state capitals and even the national capital.
After leaving Concord, we drive to Lebonan. On the way we pass thru the mountains. They so remind us of the NC Mountains except for some occasional white rocks. When we get to Lebonan we check in then head on towards Montpelier Vt. We drive thru Dartmouth College (not university). We were amazed that Dartmouth was just a College.
Our first stop on the drive was Quechee and we saw our first covered bridge and there was a waterfall beside the bridge. There was a restaurant overlooking the area. The sisters thought this would be a great place for dinner later and Susan ran in and got the menu. She said it had wonderful views and had glass blowing and shops in there. Driving onto Montpelier, we saw our 2
nd covered bridge. This was after we ignored the GPS and turned the corner and it was there. Next we went to Woodstock and drove around that town. No it is not where the famous concert was but is the town that gave Norman Rockwell his inspiration. Guess what we found there, a covered bridge.

cool restaruant One side of the bridge was brown (stained and kept up), the other side was weathered. On the way back from Woodstock to the highway we took the bypass and ended up going over the Quechee gorge. This was another unexpected surprise and the gorge dropped 165 feet but only for a very short while. It was created when the glacier lake emptied.
We then drove to Montpelier. The smallest state capital. Lenoir is bigger as the population is only 7800. The town is very cute and we ended up eating there because Sally and mom wanted to even though the sisters still wanted to go back to that cool restaurant. We did all like the food, we just missed the view and atmosphere.
On the way back to Lebanon we found a double covered bridge and then another covered bridge before rejoining the interstate. We all thought that Vermont was just a wonderful, beautiful place.
Oh as we were pulling onto the interstate we had to go up a very steep hill. Susan floored it and it sounded and felt like we were taking off. I told her not to

Thursday was another interesting “New England” Day.
