Today's group rest stop photo at the Bonneville Salt Flats!
We left Lakeview Oregon in the morning and started towards Nevada on a small road. Oddly enough, it was a day to see interesting things while driving along. We had been on the road probably about an hour and we came over a hill and suddenly before us was a herd of cattle coming over the hill and down the road. There were 2 cowboys mounted..one on each side, and the herd just kept coming..and coming...there must have been at least a thousand head! We sat there for probably 10 minutes as they came down the road. Finally it had thinned down enough that we could drive through slowly. We had several big bulls along side us a couple of times, but it was pretty neat!

We continued to drive then and the mountains and scenery was just gorgeous! Though it's kind of all the same (mountains & plains) after a while, each range and area has its own character too. Anyway, we were driving across a flat area and there were some wild burros just off the road. That was neat in itself but there was one in the group that was a pinto!! I wanted to get a

Some of the salt along the road. The bigger "field" was on the other side of the road though and went on as far as you could see
picture of it but I was in the passenger seat and it was on the other side of the road. I tried to have Cathy get the picture but we couldn't stop long enough to get it. It was a grey pinto though so it was pretty obviously a mule..some sneaky wild pinto colt for a father!! 😉

We drove through most of northern Nevada and it was really gorgeous the whole way! We finally got to the Utah border around 5:30 and we came over the hill and went WOW!! Right before us were the Bonneville Salt Flats!! It looked like snow on the ground in January! It was everywhere you looked. We got to a rest stop and got out and it was 94 degrees and the wind was blowing around 40 mph. We tried to get some pictures of the salt, but it is hard to see in pictures. We stopped for the night in Tooele, UT and we can see the Great Salt Lake out of the window of the hotel, but again, it does not show up well on pictures. It's rally an amazing site though. We also saw several salt mines along the

This was the gathering area at the bottom of the hill where they were obviously heading the cattle towards
way that were just pumping out salt onto the ground.

Next we'll head either towards Colorado or back into Wyoming..depending on Stephanie's schedule and whether or not we can stop to see her!
