Las Vegas, NV

Woke up this morning and looked outside to see that the forecasted wind has definitely arrived. Checked the iPhone and it said it was much cooler at 15 degrees in the morning and the maximum will only be 21 degrees. Wind is already 35 km/h and forecast to get stronger ! First job today was to pick up the hire car. We booked through Hertz and they have so many locations here we ended up choosing The Quad. Apparently the hotel where we are staying used to be the Imperial Palace, then The Quad, now The Linq, so it should be here right ? Wrong, no Hertz depot here at all ! I call the number on the reservation and it goes through to Paris Hotel and I am talking to some latino fellow whose phone keeps cutting out very second word. It did not help when I though he was saying go to Harrah’s which here they pronounce the same as Paris so I am confused. I call Harrah’s depot but no answer so eventually I decide to just go to Harrah’s as it right next door, and after weaving through the casino I finally found the Hertz counter and they had my name written down. You beauty ! We had a choice of 3 cars so I went with the Toyota Camry as we had this for road trip # 2 from Houston for 14 days so I was comfortable with the car. It’s shiny blue so hopefully easy to spot when I park it too. We had a couple of options planned today to either go to Red Rock Canyon for the scenic drive or go to the Premium Outlets centre. The latter won the vote so off we went. It’s only about 15 minute drive. I had been here before at Christmas 2010 when 1 $AUD was worth US $1.10 and that was cool. Not so good this time so we didn’t buy as much. First shop was Starbucks, and Kerry noticed a lady next to us reading a book on Pharmacology and struck up a conversation as Elise is studying this course at Uni at the moment as well. Next shop was Aeropostale to look for something for Elise and we found a top that was 90% off. Next some pants marked down 80%. What bargains ! Next shop was a Van Heusen shop where Kerry bought of all things sunglasses ! Only $10.60 so she bought two of these. We got a discount voucher after buying them so we would come back later to use it. Nike was next and Kerry found a jacket in the clearance rack that was reduced from $65.00 down to $14.97. It had a sign saying 30% off so when we went to check out I asked her whether there was an additional 30% off and she said the final price would be $8.37 plus tax. What !! I just said OK and when I looked at the receipt she took a storewide 20% discount off the ticketed price, then the 30% I asked for as well. Including tax we only paid $9.05 which is 14% of the original $65.00 price. Luke will be happy ! Next was Sketchers where Kerry is looking for a new pair of shoes for work. Very hard work here choosing something that has her size. The have lot of different styles but not all have a lot of range in sizes. Eventually we find the right one but there is a promotion of buy 1 get 50% off the 2nd pair. So now we are looking again and again and again. So much hard work to secure the discount. I think we spent almost an hour in Sketchers ! We then had lunch at the food court where we both a BLT wrap that was full of chicken ! and fries. I went back to the car to get some water and had trouble finding my car in the parking lot (turned out blue was not that uncommon a colour after all !). Went back to Van Heusen where I bought a new reversible bet for golf which was reduced from $54.00 to $16.06 with the coupon we got earlier and Kerry found a $5.00 Van Heusen dress shirt on the clearance rack for me. Too late to do Red Rock Canyon now, so back to the room, drop off the car in the car park and figure out how to find our way back into the hotel which was not so easy ! We then organised to catch the Deuce Bus up the strip to Fremont Street, where we had dinner. I had three enchiladas for $11- and Kerry had grilled atlantic salmon for $16.70. After dinner we saw about 7 cop cars on the road and a couple of people were being handcuffed but I don’t know why and did not ask ! We then bought a couple of drinks at pharmacy and watched the famous light show. Short video link here

.They had signs saying you could not consume alcohol purchased on the street and put them in sealed bags. I had a 25oz Bud Light can and Kerry had a bottled Margarita. Kerry said everyone was drinking so we just opened them anyway. I later realised it was illegal to drink alcohol in glasses or cans on the street so we headed down near the Golden Nugget Casino and stood on the corner so we didn’t get arrested ! It was cold and windy. Kerry had brought the wrong jacket tonight ! We then went in to play pokies but lost another $1.00 again. My beer was 25 oz or 740ml so a pretty big can. We then decided to head back to the strip on the Deuce but after a couple of beers it was hard work hanging on if you know what I mean. I’m sure the bus driver had our safety in mind rather than my

interests when he said after each stop “bus is in motion, please hold on”. This is our final night in Las Vegas. Check out tomorrow is not until 11am so we will hopefully get a big sleep, as our flight home from LAX tomorrow is not until 11.55pm so we have a long day ahead.
