Today we flew from Vegas to Guadalajara in Mexico, famous for being England's base in the 1986 World Cup (incidentally Ed earned his Blue Peter badge following the 1985 Mexican earthquake when he sent a 'get well' card to Mexicans in general, concerned at age 8 that the World Cup might be in jeopardy).

Faced with a choice between a 54 hour bus journey for $264 and a 3 hour flight for $284, we temporarily abandoned the purity of overland travel for the more practical and appealing alternative.

We went in search of free wireless internet access and found ourselves talking pigeon Spanish all night, constantly aided by pen and paper and dictionary. All good fun and hopefully our Spanish will improve significantly over the next 4 months. Our budget's health should improve too given the fantastic drop in prices.
