Route 66Route 66Route 66

Motel on Route 66
Yesterday after spending the night in Barstow, which is on the old Route 66, we left on Interstate 15 to Las Vegas. The scenery on the way was spectacular, we went to almost 5,000 feet throught the mountains and then dropped dramatically down to the desert. The traffic was quite heavy, made up mostly of convoys of large American Trucks. The roads were mostly straight with a bend thrown in every 10 miles or so. We arrived at Vegas and immediately spotted our hotel against the skyline. After checking in we hopped on the Deuce bus which runs continuously up and down the strip 24 hours a day. We took the bus up to Fremont Street to see the light show, which was quite disappointing. On the way back we decided to ride the Big Shot ( the highest thrill ride in the world) This is situated at the top of the Stratosphere Tower and involves being shot at speed to the highest point of the tower and then being left to freefall back down. The views across the city from the top of the tower were fantastic.

Next we stopped off at Treasure Island to see the show which

was great and then before retiring for the night we took the bus to Mandalay Bay to visit the Shark Reef Aquarium.

Today, after a much needed nights sleep we walked along the Strip and our first visit was to The M&M store which is 2 floors of M&M branded goods and also has a wall full of M&M’s. A visit to The Harley Davidson Cafe was next where you can sit down and eat while a dozen Harleys circle overhead.

This afternoon we window shopped in a couple of shopping malls full of designer shops. The mall in Caesars Palace even had a shop full of exotic cars and customised choppers for sale.

The Mirage was our next stop to visit The White Tigers and Lions in Siegfried and Roys Secret Gardens, and also to see the Dolphins. To end the day we took a ride on the rollercoaster around The New York New York.

Tomorrow we’re off to The grand Canyon.

I eagerly await updates from your blogs, boy you've already done some excellent stuff! Even driving down route 66 must have been impressive, hope to do that myself some day :D Have you done anything typically American yet? Enjoy the rest of your time there, hope to speak to you sometime soon :) Russ
