The sky was mostly sunny when we got up, so we took the van back up to Lake Louise to see if the mountains were less obscured by the clouds - - no such luck. So, we packed up and headed for the states with a short stop in Banff. It was much nicer than I remembered. The girls bought a couple patches and we were on our way south. We went through Calgary - - a huge town of over a million people, tall buildings, lots of subburbs, and horrendous traffic. The roads were not well signed and we wound up at a Walmart for lunch instead of on Rt 2 running south. Had about a 20 minute wait to get through US Customs at the border - - we had some apples that had come from somewhere other than the US or Canada, so they confiscated them - - Gena suspects that the customs agent had apple pie for dinner! We got to St Mary, MT and checked into a nice campground in the woods and made plans to drive to Logan Pass the next day.
