We really slowed down today, mother nature saw to that. I woke to the pitter patter of rain on the roof and the sky was gray and bleak. I said hooray. I have been on a tread mill and just couldn’t stop myself. There is so much to see here and I felt that if I wasn’t out there the chance of a lifetime was missed. I have got to hear the music and smell the flowers. So we lounged around I made the second half of the oatmeal pancakes with nuts and cleaned up a bit then went to take a shower. You have to understand what a big deal showers are here. Water is scarce and the park has one campground out of 15 that has a shower. I am in a private campground for 2 days so a shower is a luxury. Actually by the park standards I am in the Ritz. We have water, electric, sewer, cable tv and wifi.and a level site.! What more could a girl ask for. Well we know what else…Tomorrow night it’s in the park with nothing more than a parking place. I’ll tell you about that.
About 11 the sun started
to peak out so off we went. There was a 6 mile dirt road that I wanted to try who knew, maybe a bear. It took an hour to do the 6 miles, stopping of course, but I did see a prong horn antelope because I was up high enough to see over the ridge thanks to Pennelope. Picture
The other pictures are of the scenery from up on the Blacktail Plateau, just beautiful and Park as far as the eye can see.
It was good to be back on pavement again and we headed for Mammoth Hot Springs. My fanily and I were in the park in 1982 and I remember the hot springs to be one of my favorite, but I was disappointed this time. They are ever changing and the old deposits are no longer active but new ones are. Before they seemed to be all together, now they are spread out with old “skeletons” in between. They are still fascinating and impressive but more spread out. I’ve included lots of pictures here, just couldn’t edit them all.
By this time it was 4 pm so I found a grocery store and got a few things and
went back to the c g. Oscar got a walk in 2 times earlier so now he was happy to be in his yard and smelling the wind. I tore the camper apart and cleaned it , washed the floor and all. It was a mess.
I talked to Jeremy for a long time, then dinner and now it’s almost 9 again. Where does the time go!!
I’m not so tired tonight, good to have an easy day. This tourist business is tough!
Report on the weather. I sense a change in the air. It is unusual to have rain in the morning and then thunder storms in the afternoon but then the wind picked up as the clouds cleared right from the north. It is already 50 degrees and the night will be a cold one.
I got some great news. Denise (my sister) is coming out to join me for my birthday, well almost, the day after. She flies into Jackson on Sat so we have a week to do the Tetons and Rocky Mt Nat’l park and then we’ll get to see Jess (her daughter) who lives in Ft Collins. Denise has been all over the world
but never to the Tetons so I’m excited to show her.
