blog 08-09-15 Fishing?
It was 52 in the camper this morning but the sun was up and starting to warm the earth already. I got out of bed and started my blog from yesterday, I was just too tired last night.
I took my time getting ready for fishing, giving it time to warm up. After assembling all the necessary junk to fish I headed out to the stream to pick a spot. Some places were hard to get to, others had too much vegetation. I made a compromise and started to get my line out and pick a spot to drop the fly. Everyone told me it's too warm so the only chance you have is in a deep hole and I know from other stories to find as still water as possible. The fish will expend as little energy as possible and usually hang out near moving water to see what floats down.
I ended up catching everything but fish. I caught the grass, the bushes, the trees and the rocks until I decided that without waders and standing in the middle of the stream there was no way to get the fly in
the water. I did have my water shoes on but the water was pretty cold and I wouldn't have lasted more than 5 min, along with what I would do if I slipped and fell. I do think about possible disasters.
So I headed back down the road to see what critter I could find or some beautiful spot to sit and watch the world go by. I did find a beautiful spot and sat a while til others found my spot and it got noisy. So back down the road where I saw an eagle swooping down over a field and back up again. I had to move fast to get a couple of shots, not great but fun anyway.
Then a little farther on the mountain sheep found another lawn to munch on. It was fun watching them for a while, got a few pictures, and just enjoyed watching their interaction. The road was extra busy today with Sunday drivers looking for the same things I was so I headed back to the camper and decided to spend some time with Oscar. It started raining just a little so I went inside and O dog and
I had a nap.
After my shower it was time for dinner and I have one more night to see if the salmon will make it to my plate.
I must digress a bit here. I haven't mentioned the showers this trip, missed that little detail on this trips blogs. The shower here is a mystery to me. When you walk in the bathroom door the showers are to the left and there are 2 stalls. Well, you have to walk through one to get to the other. I chose the one furthest from the door so I was the one walking through someone else's shower. The overhead light kept going on and off and not at regular intervals but whenever it wanted. The shower stall had a glass door and periodically it would open and stay open. So between the light and the door it was pretty spooky. One could really let their imagination run wild and never step foot in the shower again. Other than that it was delightful, hot water and ample pressure.
Back to dinner, it was 7:10 by the time I got to the Station and there was only one other customer
there. I did have salmon, it was blackened, and very tasty. They have an interesting salad bar that consists of mostly cold salads like broccoli salad, Waldorf, macaroni, pea salad and hot peppers. There are fresh baked breads and hearty buns and a different soup every night. One could make a meal on the salad bar.
With every dinner they serve sherbet and a small brownie for dessert but there are fresh baked pies to choose from too. The first night I had huckleberry pie but with all that food, dessert is too much.
When I came back to the camper it looked like rain and the weather forecast is for thunder showers tonight about 9 pm. So Oscar and I are hunkered down and I have everything inside so it won't get wet because we are leaving tomorrow.
Time to leave Montana behind and explore Washington. More tomorrow.
