Rt 66 Map
Where the camera has flashed is roughly where we were when this picture was taken!! Yet again was awake at 6am and all up and out on the road by 9am. Before long we were in Waggoner where there is a statue of the Virgin Mary that 'protects travellers on route 66' we briefly stopped off here before heading onto Mt Olive for a quick petrol stop. (Very cheap).
We continued on our way and it wasn't long before we crossed into Missouri, over the Mississippi river, we drove through a few towns - Eureka, Pacific and Gray Summit where we stopped for a bite to eat, about half an hour down the road we made a right turn passing 'Yellowstone park' and some photo opportune moments, As we approached the next town it all looked a tad familiar and suddenly a sign read - Eureka, this was the last phrase in my mind at this point! We obviously had made a wrong turn and had been driving on Rt 66 East instead of West, We soon picked up the correct route and made a stop at Lebanon for some much needed fuel again!
Shortly after this we appeared to hit some derelict towns, although the drive through was typical rolling hills so really
Spot the difference
What d'ya notice?!! nice. we saw a lot of wildlife throughout albeit - Wildlife that had met an unexpected end.
By 6pm we arrived in Joplin Mo, 3 miles West of Kansas and 16 miles from Oklahoma. We enquired at 4 hotels before deciding on the Ramada (£15 each, can't believe how cheap they have been so far) Had a meal at a restuarant opposite and got caught up in a storm. Back in now though and off to bed soon - Ready to find Dorothy tomorrow!!
