Day 3 Chicago to St. Louis

WOW!!!! We love Chicago!! The University of Chicago is amazing! Both Sarah and I fell in love with the school, the city, and the town! The people all have that mid-west hospitality and the city is beautiful. There are amazing parks, beaches . . . even for your dog . . .art, history, culture, music. . . WOW!!!

We ate lunch in a small. . . very small sandwich shop Medici's near the university, the food was amazing and . . . the t-shirts proclaimed that . . . Obama eats here!

Off to St.Louis . . . and more importantly . . . Grammies house!!!

We once again had blue skies and smooth sailing.

What is a road trip without a few historical opportunities and unscheduled stops along the way?

Springfield, IL is the home of the Abe Lincoln tomb. It's a beautiful spot to stop and stretch your legs as you learn a bit of history. It turns out Abe's friends wanted to burry him in downtown Springfield . . . but his wife said . . . NOPE . . . he wants to be

A Chicago landmark - wish we would have had more time to explort the city.
in a quiet peaceful place. She choose this park like cemetery that was, at that time, in the country, and is now on the edge of town.

Crossing into St. Louis as the sun is blazing onto the Arch and the mighty Mississippi river....Ahhhh....home sweet home....whew....and only 98 degrees.....Yikes!

Ok...so the "new" Bush Stadium is nice and all....but....I love my old one... 😞 It fit the skyline better...and...well we all hate changes to our childhood memories!

We could have blasted into Grammie's house via the expressway...but....there are just some things you have to see....we drove in through town and saw a few of my childhood favorites...wound past Washington U...and then into the neighborhood....Yep...there is the Whalen's house, Miss Marge's, Lizzy's, the Britt's.....and finally....Grammie's House.....Whoot!!

We only had a few minutes to visit and then it was back in the car for an indoor bar-b-que at Annie and John's.

John skillfully grilled up some St. Louis pork steaks with...what else...Maul's Bar-b-que sauce....Mmmmmm...finger lickin' good!!

Annie looks great with baby on board!

With dinner over and leftovers put away....yawn...it has been a ....yawn...very long.....Wait...what...of course we have room for Fritzes!! Mmmmm....St. Louis frozen custard....who could

Ahhhh....
There's nothing like a summertime road trip! I miss those long drives, the scenery, settling into a motel for the night...

Abe hasn't gotten much peace there either. Attempted body snatchers, and then exhumation! Jill, you look like you're having a ball. PLEASE don't leave the c out of Busch stadium. Somone might think that the new one is dedicated to GW, or daddy, and get violent, or violently sick! My office at Wash U was in the basement of the Education building on the north side of campus, just east of the law school. Point it out to Sarah if it's still there. I was Assistant Prof. of Education in the Graduate Institute of Education (GIE), from 1966-74. LUB, Dad
