Up quite late around 9.30 today and my back is improving a lot. As we got upgraded to a suite we will do all the washing today. Cloudy start to the day only about 16 degrees and a sight drizzle around. It is supposed to reach 21 later and get a bit windy but we will see. We went to Farmhouse Restaurant for breakfast at 2PM ! Kerry had 2 Pancakes with Pecans and I had 3 Pancakes with Blueberry. Simply delicious. Then we went to the famous Dicks 5 & Dime souvenir store and got the licence plate for the Bali Hut (and a cake of soap). We were lucky to find the licence plate as we walked up and down every aisle and we got blocked at the end of an aisle by a lady in a wheelchair so we had to wait and whilst we were waiting we looked around an found a licence plate right next to us! Went back to our room where Kerry had her first afternoon nap for the trip and I watched a bit of the Masters Par 3 golf tournament (where they had an unbelievable 8 hole in ones in one day
!). Later I had another Jacuzzi and swimming pool therapy session in my private pool (that’s right no-one else was there again). I even had the confidence to try swimming a couple of laps to stretch my back out. The weather improved as per the forecast and ended up around 22 degrees and sunny with a bit of cloud around. We had dinner on the way to tonight’s show at The Great American Steak & Chicken House on the strip. Kerry just had a vegetable soup with corn bread and I had a Salad with Fried Chicken strips which was refreshing. Off next to see a show at the Welk Resort. Huge complex with lots of apartments, and 2 golf courses but it is low season here at the moment so not a lot of people around. We are seeing Million Dollar Quartet. It’s a show about the one night that the famous Sun Studios in Memphis hosted a jamming session that featured Karl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley. The theatre is very modern compared with last night and seats a bit over 2,000 but only about 200 here I guess. We are seated in Row
6 and have excellent seats. Excellent show and a lot cheaper than the Vegas version of this show. Great production, acting and of course the music was excellent! I was tapping my feet to these 50’s and 60’s classics as soon as the show started. Back to our room around 10.30pm and booked the final car rental from Hertz which I had almost forgot about which will take us back to Los Angeles. Tomorrow we leave Missouri and head North West where we first enter Kansas and later Oklahoma. We probably spent the least amount of money today on the whole trip, only about $50- all up (including a petrol top up). Much of tomorrow will be following the old Route 66 Highway and it will be our longest day of driving on the holiday by some amount.
