Angels 9, Red Sox 2
We are trying our hardest not to be completely exhausted everyday, but its catching up to us. We are trying to write this on the bus because we don’t think we’ll be able to do it when we get to the hotel.
We started the morning somewhere… in Massachusetts. We drove into Boston and met up with our city tour guide. He was not our favorite, we think we were spoiled by our fabulous NY tour guide. Anyways, we wish we could have had more history, but it was nice just to be able to see the city. It sure is beautiful. (We have been very lucky with the weather. It is rather warm and humid, but it has not been too hot. It sprinkled on us a little tonight as the game began. Tomorrow’s forecast is for some rain; we seem to be always just ahead or behind a storm.)
Then we had about an hour to kill before our Fenway Park tour. This tour compared to the Yankee Stadium tour was fabulous. Our guide was very nice and informative. She took us to all the different levels and all different seating
types to show us different aspects of the park, tell us about when they were built, why they are special etc. For example, the upper level right field tier of table style seats, were put in in 2004, therefore they call them the lucky seats. Then we sat in the $160 seats on the skinny second level for the “special people.” Backed up to these seats is an amazing restaurant only available to those who can find a chance to sit in this section.
Next was our (and probably everyone’s) favorite seats. The “Monstah” seats. Left field of Fenway is known to all as the Green Monster. These seats were added a few years back, and can only be gotten through a lottery. Bragging rights to say we got to sit there even if there was no game going on. Our guide told us that during batting practice a homerun is hit up here average every 70 seconds! (Tonight we saw a homer go right over the wall.)
The seats in the back section of the field level are particularly interesting. They were added after the stadium had been there a while. They are under the overhang of
the upper deck, and many seats have obscured views from the posts in the way. These seats are very cramped—your knees hit the seat in front of you. They are wooden and look as though they are falling apart. Very uncomfortable! But these seats will always remain, because to take them out would cause the Red Sox to lose a couple of thousand seats. Replacement seats would have to be up to current code, so the old ones remain (and are always sold). The Red Sox are trying to find a way to add some more seats, even if just a few. The stadium is nearing 100 years old. Once it is 100 years old it will be considered a historical landmark, and no revisions will be allowed to the stadium, only maintenance. Very interesting!
Then we had… I believe 3 or 4 hours before the start of the game. There was not much to do other than around Yawkey Way. We spent lots of time in the Red Sox team store, again it was rather difficult. But I managed to find a shirt that said “Fenway Park.” Perfect! It doesn’t say Red Sox! And it’s not even their colors.
We finally had “the second best dog in the majors;” The Fenway Frank. And it was pretty darn good. We also had something called fried dough, or as I would call it: “fried goodness.” Basically just a big donut/pancake with sugar and cinnamon the size of a plate. And we forgot that yesterday we had another Fenway/Boston amazing food. Chowda! Who would have thought you could eat clam chowder at a baseball game. It was awesome.
Well the Angels beat the Sox tonight. Sweep. So that was fun. Tomorrow we leave at 9:15 and drive 4 hours or so to the Hall of Fame. Ahhh! We are more excited for tomorrow than any day. We have most of the day to spend there and have dinner there as well. Then we head all the way back to the hotel we had stayed in before in…. New Jersey. So we don’t get back there until 1:00 am. Oh well…
(I (Jill) just found out I won the bus contest for guessing the score of the game tonight. Sweet! Won an all star game mini helmet… giving Yankee stuff away in the Red Sox parking lot? Sacrilege some would say.)
We are having a great time, living on caffeine, trying to soak up every bit of everything amazing around us, and trying so so hard not to get grumpy from being so exhausted.
Dad we miss you! You’re so good to us!!

Manny Ramirez
Wow! You go to Boston, and bring Manny Ramirez back to LA. Don't suppose you talked to Kevin Garnett while you were there?
