Met the new tour group the next day - there are 57 people on the new tour so the bus is full - I am thankful that there are 10 people on it for at least the first part of it - less names to remember.
The saddest part was saying goodbye to Amy, my friend and partner in crime!! I’m going to miss you Ams!!
Boarded the bus and headed for our usual seat and we finally got moving, I was glad to still have Nat with me for this tour. It didn’t take long to figure out that there were some big personalities on this tour… Feels weird to be without the others after so long and I’m definitely glad that there are still 10 of us left off the last tour.
Today’s trek was to be New York to Boston. So the drive in the morning took us up the east coast where we made our first stop in Newport. Home to the stars holiday homes. The houses here are massive, beyond your wildest dreams with manicured gardens and water views. Newport, Rhode Island is where the Americas Cup race is held and is the
yachting capital of the USA.
Then we headed to Massachusetts and the historic city of Boston. Massachusetts has a huge number of migrants from both Italy and Ireland which is reflected in the amount of restaurants from each of these countries.
Boston is the home to over 20 college’s ad universities including Harvard which is the oldest uni in the USA.
We took a bus tour of the city to figure out what we wanted to see in our leisure day tomorrow.
Had dinner at the Italian restaurant attached to our hotel.
We decided to head out to the ‘Harp’ Bar and drank too much as usual upstairs which had a band doing covers and down stairs had a DJ. I lost Nat along the way somewhere and ended up staying out for the whole night! Sleep, who needs it anyways!! Managed to finally arrive back home at our hotel by about 7am, had a quick shower and straight to brekkie!
Anna, Nat and I managed to get out of taking the trolley tour and did our own thing for the day.
We managed to fit in all the stuff we’d planned to
see including the ‘Freedom Trail’ on our way to the building of the golden plated (24 carrot) roof dome, then we walked through Boston Common and Boston Public Gardens with the Swan boat rides and the squirrels!! The gardens in Boston are outstanding with lovely flowers and big trees and lush green grass that makes you just want to lay down on it! Boston really is a city I could see me living in. A nice lady came up to us in the street and asked us if we needed any help when we were just standing there looking a bit lost at our map - not something you see everyday!
We made our way to the ‘Cheers’ Bar, this bar was the inspiration for the TV show so we had lunch there, although none of us felt much like drinking!
We had planned to try and scalp tickets for the Red Sox baseball game but as some of us were feeling a bit under the weather and some of us were just plain tired we decided to catch the subway back to our hotel at Revere and give it a miss.
We managed to change trains
and get off at our stop at ‘Revere Beach’ and decided to check out the beach whilst we were there. The water looked like a lake it was so flat and the sand was a greyish colour, not really as nice as the beaches at home but the beach was packed as it was a smashing day!
We walked along the beach and got some ice cream then proceeded to walk in the general direction of our hotel. We met a nice American man who gave us some directions - telling us it was quiet a big walk to our hotel and we had bags with us.
We decided to catch a cab but there were none in site and we seemed to be out of luck… Then we saw one and tried to wave him down, he drove past first then must have felt sorry for us and stopped. He told us he was off duty but would take us anyways at no charge. He was sweet and we were thankful so we paid him anyways and were happy to be back at our hotel! Two acts of kindness in the one day, we were impressed with
the locals we’d meet so far!
Anna, Nat and I decided not to go back into Boston with the others and opted to get Chinese delivered to our room. It was just average but we didn’t have to move so we didn’t care! We had a restful night in and managed to make it into bed by about 10pm which must have been some sort of record!!
Its soooo good having Nat as my room mate for this trip, it just makes everything so easy!
