We woke up bright and early so that we could make it to the Portland Headlight for sunrise. The Portland Headlight was one of the main reasons why we wanted to go to Portland.

Portland Headlight

Some interesting facts about the Portland Headlight include:

1. it is stated to be the oldest lighthouse in Maine

2. it is one of the most photographed lighthouses in the world.

3. it is also one of only four authorized by George Washington and never rebuilt.

4. it includes a light tower, keepers’ quarters, a whistle house, a paint locker and a garage

I enjoyed watching the sunrise while scrolling around the Portland Headlight and Fort Williams Park.

After being mesmerized by the Portland Lighthouse, we headed to Becky Dinner for Breakfast. Then it was time to explore the shops of Portland. Some of the various shops that we visited included souvenir shops, made in Maine, Sherman’s Maine Coast Book Shop, Longfellow Books and Sea Bags

We stopped over at the “Holy Donut” for an afternoon snack. The Holy Donut is known for making gourmet donuts from Maine potatoes. The donuts we tried included Maple Bacon and Toasted Coconut.

The last stop of the day was “The Highroller Lobster Co.” where I got my first taste of The Maine Lobster Roll with various sauces. Delicious!

Tomorrow, we head out to Bangor, the childhood home of Stephen King and the inspiration for various Characters in his novels. Until then!
