Stone wall
Bylaws in a lot of the states are that if there is a stone wall it has to be perserved so this one is in Conn. but we saw lots of them Due to my procrastination and spastic internet service my blogging has taken a back seat to everything else in our continued travels. So some back tracking is due. After leaving Massachusetts we drove straight through Providence, Rhode Island, Hartford, Connecticut, over the Hudson River into New York and into Pennsylvania. Here we got on the wrong highway and ended up paying $2.00 on a toll highway going into New Jersey before being able to turn around and go back into Pennsylvania and finding our campground at Scotsrun. So, yes I can add New Jersey to states visited. I should mention here that in my quest for less pricey campgrounds (meaning anything under $30.00 a night) I have really gotten us into some back roads and interesting places where 40 foot RV's should never go. We are seeing the country though. We stayed at the Scotrun Campground in the Pocono Mountains for a couple of days then on to a new location only a few miles away. Chuck decided to be very smart about this move and check out the way before moving, so we wouldn't get lost. Well all went well until he missed the road and we got lost. A
fall Colours
this was in Conn. but we were lucky enough to be moving enough south to stay with the fall colours half hour trip turned into an hour and a half but eventually we made it. Then Hurricane Sandy was about to intrude into our plans and we thought it rather prudent to make a hasty retreat from the Philladelphia area. I was flying out of Pittsburgh and back to Canada for a wedding on Oct. 31, Chuck was staying with the RV at a campground about twenty miles out of Pittsburgh. While I enjoyed a few days with family in Alberta Chuck endured a few nasty days of wind and rain resulting from the hurricane. He weathered it well and on my return we we waited another day and left the area for West Virginia. I will mention here that all my pictures from Pennsylvania are lost in the cyberspace of this computer OR I erased them by mistake, but the end result is the same, never to be found again. We were not that fond of the state, weather aside it is just a rather bleak area. We passed through Charleston in West Virginia and on to our campground in Huntington. The area between these two cities is apparently famous for its pumpkin festival. West Virginia is in the
New York
the country of course not the city - we stayed away from there. Tri-State area, meaning West virginia, Ohio and Kentucky and at Huntington we are close to all three states. The area became known after the civil war when the railroad connected with the traffic from the Ohio river and West Virginia was the only State born from the Civil War. Its heritage is coal mining and alot of regions are rather depressed now. We stayed here for a couple of days and then on to Chucks number one on his bucket list, Kentucky and more specifically Louisville and Churchill Downs. When he was in his early twenty's Chuck had his training license for thoroughbreds (in Vancouver and California) his dream was to go to the Kentucky Derby. Well its not exactly Derby season but we did go and it did happen to be a race day, which was very exciting. With Chuck's advice and looking at the horses in the paddock I bet on 4 races and won on 2, ok it was only $2.00 bets but still I had fun and made $18.00. My husband was in his glory and we spent the whole day between the Derby Museum and the Track. We were camped at Irvine a 2 hour
Hudson River
is the state line going into New York State trip from louisville but close to Lexington and the famous Claiborne Farms, where Secritariat (triple crown winner) was retired to. It is also Daniel Boone country. It really is a beautiful state. All good things come to an end so I dragged Chuck away and we are on the road again to Tenneesse. I will try to be more diligent about the bloggging, but no promises.
