Celebration of Columbus

In the United states, Americans celebrate Columbus Day, but should this day really be really celebrated? When Columbus had discovered the new land, he had used violence to control the natives and take their land. Columbus had natives turned into slaves and had the natives convert to Christianity. Beside the fact that many natives were forced into slavery and sold, many natives died from the diseases that the Europeans had brought. While reading this article, I found the way the natives were treated was brutal, unjustified, and shocking. This article is related to World history class becuase we are learning about the Americas and why the Americas were so valueable to Europeans.
