Carly, Laurence & Us
1st time we met Carly Chicago is at the top of my list for Top 5 Favorite Cities in the World, but the weather knocks it down the list of places to ever live. I have always thought if I could combine Chicago with San Dieogo's weather, well that would be where I would live but that isn't the case so I just visit there every trip to my homestate of Illinois. This time we spent 3 nights on the north side in the Lakeview East neighborhood with my cousin and her boyfriend.
One reason I love Chicago is you can take the "L" or buses all around the city without ever needing a car, hard to get this in many US cities. You def see a different side of any city when riding public transportation and we sure did this time. We witnessed a gambling scam on the Orange Line riding from Midway Airport, drunks standing uncomfortably close for US personal space standards, beggars asking for money and many tourists who obviously weren't used to riding public transit. Don't be scared to using the public transit in Chicago, in fact I encourage it to see another side of the city and save
yourself a lot of money on parking if you were to drive a vehicle.
To sum up our time in Chicago we had dinner every night with friends or family, spent a little over 5 hours at Museum of Science & Industry, walked the trail along Lake Michigan and around Wrigleyville on game day, but somehow we still didn't have enough time to see everyone that I would have liked in Chicagoland area.
Great Restaurants that we ate at:
Flight 1551 at 1551 N Wells St in Old Town &
Uncommon Ground at 3800 N Clark near Wrigley Field. I had the Linebacker flight of wine which was 3 red wines, Pete had the dessert flight which conisisted of many types of donuts and everything was tapas style which we have grown to love after living in China.
Museum of Science & Industry 57th & Lake Shore Drive. We arrived at noon and left at 5:15pm without seeing everything I would have liked to, but we were exhausted and had dinner plans at 6:30 that we needed to get to. I had been to this museum as a kid and in junior high on a class field
trip. Pete hadn't been before and I wanted him to experience it and he was all about it when he found out they have a temporary Mythbuster's exhibit. The Life in Space? Curiosity Rover exhibit opened the day before we went, which was quite interesting to read about. Other highlights were the U-505 Submarine exhibit, Smart Home, Farm Tech, Mythbuster's (of course), Science Storms, YOU! The Experience & the Poop Happens show. Not sure the last time I had laughed so hard at a science demonstration show but it is a MUST SEE!
Nephews' afternoon in Chicago: Brooke, Mat & the boys came to pick us up on Friday around noon. My nephews haven't been to a Cubs game yet and the Cubs had just returned to Chicago that day playing the Cardinals. We walked around the stadium, took some photos and then headed to North Avenue Beach so they could swim in Lake Michigan for the first time. I can really see many more trips with them in Chicago in the coming years as this was a good sampler for them.
CTA 3 day pass: $14 for an adult which allows unlimited access
Being an Aunt is SO COOL
on top of Caitlin's rooftop to the bus and "L", great deal as one way on each is $2 and $2.25.
HUGE thanks to Sam & Caitlin for letting us stay for 3 nights!

Chicago, what a beautiful city!
Hi there! I just saw your blog, cannot tell how I got here but I love what you are doing guys and tell you more, I remember being in Flight 1551 in 2008, as I used to travel to NYC quite often when representing Argentinian wine. So we had this big dinner with mamnager of the restaurant and invite people to taste our wine (from Mendoza, Argentina) and it was a great night! I wish I had more time to spend at that city, but it is definately one to go back!!! all the best!!!!
