Most of the hot spring I visited were actually just a trickle of scalding water that fed into a river. So unless you constantly mixed the water, you'd be tepid towards the bottom and boiling at the surface. But this one had a six person caldron that created a more even thermocline.

This was my campsite for the night. Since it was bear, wolf, and mountain lion country I made sure to do my cooking well away from the tent and then hoist my remaining foodstuffs up a bare tree.

I left early for a huge day of hiking.

It took me six hours to forge a trail through two feet of snow to the top then less than two hours to slide down it. Nothing like being cold, wet, and scared. I've satisfied my hiking desires for a while.
