driving up the coast After returning late from the luau,w e expected to spend an uneventful evening and get some rest before we got up early to head out to Kaua’I again; boy, were we wrong! First thing into the room, we discovered that housekeeping had taken Claire’s neck pillow out with the bedding. We could maybe see it as a simple mistake if it were white like the sheets, but it was a blue, odd-shaped pillow. A call to guest services was no help. Then, when Susan went to shower, she discovered that the room steward left us no wash clothes. In the middle of the night, we started smelling things and it was not nice… it smelled straight up like our room was part of the New York City sewer. Claire was having dreams about the smell. It was that bad!!!
We set an alarm early to get a quick breakfast and catch a taxi back to our rental carl. Last night we started to park our rental on the road near the ship’s port, but decided it wouldn’t be safe and might be towed or broken into; so, we parked it in airport parking instead. We took a taxi back to
the ship. After getting dropped off at the airport this morning, we headed to the car – but there was NO car there!!!!!
What??? We all knew exactly where we left it. Perplexed and anxious, we walked around the immediate area thinking we all must had remembered incorrectly. Claire had the bright idea to ask the construction workers if they knew anything. They said “yes, we moved them!” Where are they? “They are somewhere in the back of the parking lot”. During the next 20 or more minutes we all split up and searched different areas of the lot. We encountered several other in search of their vehicles. Who knows how they moved the vehicles. There were no signs last night telling us NOT to park there. The construction crew was tearing up the lot to repave, so they just decided to move all the cars.
Dorothy, our GPS, was not having a good day. She must’ve had the hiccups. She would suddenly tell us to turn around when we didn’t need to, then reconfigure and tell us to U-turn and go the other way. We managed to make it to Hanalei Bay after stopping at the Kilauea
Light House. The view was spectacular at both the lighthouse and Hanalei Bay. Pam got in the water at the beach and we got pictures of Puff the Magic Dragon.
On the way back, Dorothy had several more hiccups. We were glad to turn in the car at the airport and get back to the cruise ship. It was 11:30, time for lunch, so we headed to the buffet… Well, it doesn’t open until noon. Seriously!! Instead, we headed to the Cadillac Café and got a table out on the deck. We all ordered lunch (an easy order). After a few minutes, the waitress came back out to get our order again because the previous order got wet. After waiting forever, our food arrived, well food arrived just not what we ordered. The confused person took the food back and took our order for the 3
rd time. About 10 minutes later, they brought us the same wrong food again. Susan kept the hamburger but it had everything on it that she had said she didn’t want. Pam and Claire placed their order for the 4th time. Susan asked for ketchup. In the interim they brought Susan her soup, but
no spoon. Finally, they brought our correct order. They never refilled our waters; Claire never got her pickle and Susan never got her ketchup (Claire did find Susan some). What was with this day?
To clear our head, we went to sit out on our balcony. Of course, there was some loud port noise and then it started raining.
The day wasn’t all crazy; we did see some beautiful things even before the cruise ship toured the Na Pali Coast of Kaua’I. The views included some of the most gorgeous green, towering mountains dipping right into the blue, blue sea. It was breath-taking. (It took our “ha” away).
