Having never been to Hawaii, I couldn't turn down the opportunity to escape the cold and rainy winter and get a bit of sun and some down time for six days. With spectacular scenery, a laid-back vibe, and friendly locals, who could ask for more? Highlights included a visit to Puka Dog (as seen in chef-come-TV host/traveller Anthony Bourdain's show No Reservations); an afternoon at Sandy Beach; visiting the North Shore and the windward side of the island over two days in a rented Jeep; a stop at the Dole plantation; and burgers at Kua 'Aina. Other highlights (not pictured here) included seeing the cast of the new ABC series "Off the Map," meals at Morimoto and Town, catching some wave action (though regrettably not on a surfboard), and beach time with a good novel (The Slap, by Christos Tsiolkas) and my feet deep in the sand.

Mahalo!
