Well its been another tough week for us.....you know sunbathing, shopping and eating out is so time consuming and hard work this living it up melarky!!!
We have had a great week in Hawaii we started off in a hostel but it was so grotty and just a crapy atmosphere we moved to a hotel which was the same price our own room and a pool so in all a great decision. We were right on the main beach Waikik which is a beautiful beach but very built up. It has been such a different experience from Fiji being so much more developed and you know you are in America when you get asked on the street if you 'wanna shoot shit?' which obviously lee did so off we went up a little flight of stairs to a shooting range. Lee seemed to have lots of fun shooting M16'S and a magnum 45 amongst others...I had fun posing in the ear protectors and glasses, you could even take the option to shoot a target of Binladen!!
We went on a day trip to pearl harbour which was fascinating....even if my limited history is based on the not so historical
recent film. We went onto the Missori the ship that the treaty was signed to end ww2 and we saw the arazona the ship that was sunk during the pear harbour attack. Can you believe you can see it the top is only about 2 feet under the water. It was blasted while docked with all its crew on board most of which perished. We knew this but just didnt realise just how shallow it was, its hard to get your had round the fact that around 2000 people died just there when they were so close to the surface yet trapped. It still leaks oil now which you can see sitting on the water.
We have spent a lot of time in the all you can eat buffets which has not been good for our waistlines even lee has put on weight so you can imagine what has happen to mine but when you can have as many desserts as you like Im not going to stop at one.
We spent a lot of time in Hawaii on the beach or watching the street performers in the evenings. We did hire a car to drive round the
island which is only about 200 miles round so didnt take long. The north coast has the amazing waves where all the surfing contests take place you wouldnt believe the size of them but its quite windy there so not good for sunbathing but great for sand in your sarnies.
In all Hawaii was great but so different from quiet Fijii and so american I guess it has been a taste of whats to come for the next month. It has been nice to pick the pace up a bit and see somthing different.
For all thoes who have commented....lee was very proud of what has been refereed to as fuzz on his face, or tramp beard but he likes to call cool travellers beard!!!!! but much to his dislike and protesting it had to go!!!! I kept telling his if he left it any longer he would have a white face underneath and honestly it made me sick....however it was great for sneaking food out from the buffet! It has now been reduced but still remains in parts but dont worry I will put my foot down before Petes wedding.
So with only 4 weeks to
go we are off to LA, San Fran and Las Vagas to live the american dream.
take care
xx
