#1 banana ever
YUMMM Locl banana given to me by the guy at the antique shop. It was ab-fab. This week has been wonderful and beautiful. The first half of my trip was spent
with
Rotaractors, seeing beautiful places, local spots and just hanging out. On my
last night
with the girls they took me to the IAO Needle where we trampled through cutting
green
tea leaves from plants so that the girls could make Tahitian Head bands and
Waist bands
for a Tahitian dance performance. I also picked a few guavas from the trees,
fabulous...
We went to Tez's house to piece things together and I made my own Tahitian
headband
from the leaves.
On Thursday I was picked up at 6:00 am and accompanied Laycie-Ann to a Rotary
meeting
for the Wailuku Rotary club, it met at the VERY BEAUTIFUL Maui Tropical
Plantation. The
scenery is gorgeous and my favorite part may have been the 2 monkeys in the cage
outside. We then went to the Maui Community College where I completed my head
piece
and then collected Plumerias to make Lei's for 2 of my friends. At noon we went
to the
Maui Rotary Club that met at the college in the dining hall. Again we were
greeted and
welcomed by lovely Maui Rotarians. I
hammock sky
the view looking up from my hammock certainly got a Rotary fill this past
week, so lovely.
Heidi, Kevin and Ethan picked me up and after we dealt with a bunch of rental
car
problems we were on our way to Wailea. We stopped in Kihei for lunch at Da
Kitchen and a
shaved ice at the Rainbow Mall. As soon as we got to the Grand Wailea we threw
on our
suits and went down to the beach and the pool. That evening Heidi and I drove
around
Kihei trying to find dinner to take back to the room, what a fet that was, we
finally ordered
Mexican.
Friday am we went to Denny's which was still very expensive, but cheaper than
our hotel.
Prices out here are rather outrageous. We spent the afternoon shooting down the
waterslides in the pool and floating about. While out on the beach area a woman
came
around and told everyone she saw a shark, we all got out of the water for awhile
and then I
decided to go back in (not too deep). We heard a bit later from a beach staff
that it was
said to be a turtle.
We got to the Maui
Iao Needle
Just a mile from my hostel... Prince for Aletha and Jims wedding at 5:00, Aletha had me
take black
and white photos for them on her good camera. That was fun (pray they turn
out.... lol).
The wedding was short and sweet and intimate. They looked so happy and excited
and
beautiful. I could have kicked the woman out in the water just standing there
in the
background of all the shots, HOW RUDE! Every shot I took I tried to cut her
out. lol The
dinner buffet was amazing, probably the best wedding dinner I have ever had,
same was
said by the other guests. That evening we all met at a bar in Kihei for some
down time
and chatting. Heidi and I called it an early night to prepare for our big
Saturday.
Yesterday morning we got up and left at 7am for our trip on the road to Hana.
We ate an
awesome breakfast in Paia, a quaint little town on the way. The roads to Hana
were curvy,
hair pinned, narrow and beautiful. We stopped at a beautiful waterfall and
parked ont he
road. We found a way down the rocks and trampled around ending up in a pool.
The
peek a boo
no explanation for this one water was very cold t first, but it felt great to swim in. We carried on
stopping here and
there at the beautiful sites and watching the big blue ocean all along the
coast. The views
were picturesque. The seven sacred pools was another place we decided to stop
and
swim, again the water was cold but it was relieveing to be there and the weather
felt great
down on the rocks. The black sand beach was a site to see, I do not think
pictures give it
justice. The rough yet fine black sand felt great on my feet, however I did not
go far in the
ocean because you certainly can not see what is below you and the waves were
rather
rough. We hiked up to the caves, the first one was not so exciting, but the
second was
calling our names. The water was crystal clear and at parts about 6 feet or so
deep. There
were small black fish swarming around us, however it did not look like a
mosquito
infested pond like the first cave. We saw people swimming around the cave that
had gone
far into the darkness and said it was purely
guavas
that is me trespassing a little to pick guavas amazing, one of them had a
headlight on.
Kevin and I tried to get in there but it was pitch black. We took a peek in and
he would
flash with the camera so we could get a glimpse of what the others above us
could not
see. Note to self and others, get a headlight and go in those caves, I would
come back for
that, although it looked straight out of a horror film. On the ride back we got
a couple
loaves of banana bread and some bananas, the rest of the ride I was pretty
passed out to
ease the queeziness. Arriving in Kihei we again got Mexican food, very tasty
and filling. I
took a hot bath to get all the grim off my body and went to bed... long day...
My friends have already left today and I am to check out in about an hour before
getting
picked up. My flight leaves later than everyone else, hoping to get to LA about
midnight.
It has been a great week. Maui is beautiful, the culture is unique and the
sites are out of
this world. Thank you for coming along on my
and guavas i found
yummmmm, they were sooo good Adventure!
Love,
Erin
