Day 13
Well I was right, the worst nights sleep on this trip. Even with 2 fans on us I felt sweaty and uncomfortable. At least it was just the one night. I got up at 6am as I was too hot.
Breakfast was potato skins back at Moose Macgillycuddys. Really like the food there. A walk on the beach and we needed to head to the airport. You need to get to the airports 1 and a half to 2 hours before a flight, even domestic flights. You queue to check in, bag drop, pre screen and TSA. It's crazy and you feel like you waste so much time. As our flight was in the middle of the day I felt like the day was a waste. Next time I would either book early like 9am just so I would have the rest of the day to do things or after 6pm so you could enjoy the day. We had a car so driving is fine, if you didn't have a car then probably a flight a couple of hours after checking out of your accommodation (most places have been an 11am checkout in Hawai'i )would work for
checking in at the next (most check in either 3pm or 4pm).
We took our previous Lyft drivers advice and "moved the pin" outside of the airport and called them. In Honululu they are not allowed to come into the arrival area so we had to walk a couple of hundred metres to the national post office. This worked and we saved about $10 over a spedi shuttle ($15 per person plus tax).
Our new accommodation was a hostel, we had a private room with private bathroom. We were lucky, they had booked out so used an overflow room at the Grand Waikiki. A way nicer room and we could use this hotel 's amenities including their pool but still be able to access all the things that the hostel offered including free brekky, free pizza night and discounted tours.
We were a short 2 minute walk from the beach so it was easy to catch the sunset. Waikiki beach although very touristy is a lovely beach. Nice looking sand, lovely aqua and blue water, lots of surfers. The clouds were covering the sky but the sunset was still nice. We sat on "The Wall" and dangled
our feet over letting the waves crash against the wall and our feet.
We checked out the roof bar common area and chatted to a couple, comparing stories of rooms at different places.
Kym fancìed Thai food but a look on Google didnt show anything close. We took a walk along the beach front shops before finding a chinese restaurant called Kirin. It was a bit pricy but the food and the service was fantastic. They even gave us free puddings.
Both of us were exhausted not being able to sleep well the night before so we hit the pillow early. Well I fell asleep quickly, I think Kym read for a while..
